Bournemouth vs Newcastle United Player Ratings

Summary

  • Sandro Tonali
  • Nick Woltemade

A tense Premier League encounter at the Vitality Stadium concluded in a goalless draw. Both Bournemouth and Newcastle United canceled each other out in a tactical chess match. It was a game defined by defensive solidity rather than attacking flair. From our perspective, neither side truly deserved to win.

The match wasn't without its moments, though. Early on, Tyler Adams forced a sharp save from Nick Pope. Newcastle responded with Jacob Murphy testing Djordje Petrovic at the other end. The game was physical and scrappy, a real battle for midfield supremacy.

What stood out to us was the performance of Sandro Tonali. He was a beacon of quality in an otherwise disjointed Newcastle United performance and our highest-rated player. Despite the lack of goals, the commitment from both teams was evident, but a point apiece feels like a fair, if uninspiring, outcome for this match. Here are the Bournemouth vs Newcastle United player ratings.

Newcastle United Player Ratings vs Bournemouth

Here are the Newcastle United player ratings vs Bournemouth.

Goalkeeper

Nick Pope - 7.0: A solid display from the Magpies' keeper. He made a couple of crucial saves when called upon, including a smart stop to deny Adams. His command of the area on high balls was excellent. The distribution could have been better, but he did his main job without fuss.

Defenders

Sven Botman - 7.0: The Dutchman was his usual composed self. He read the game intelligently, making eight clearances and looking comfortable in possession. We noticed he was rarely troubled by Bournemouth's forwards. It was a very assured performance.

Dan Burn - 7.5: A colossal performance from the captain. He was an absolute monster in the air, winning duels and making a staggering 11 clearances. From our perspective, he was a true warrior at the back. His lack of pace was occasionally exposed but his defensive instincts were top-notch.

Malick Thiaw - 6.0: A really mixed performance from Thiaw. He made some important blocks and clearances but also looked rash. He committed needless fouls and picked up a clumsy yellow card for handball. We felt he was a bit of a liability at times.

Midfielders

Lewis Hall - 7.0: Full of energy and aggression in the middle of the park. He won an impressive 10 duels and consistently drew fouls to relieve pressure. His final ball was sometimes missing but his work rate was undeniable. A very promising and tenacious display.

Sandro Tonali - 8.0: Newcastle's best player by a considerable margin. The Italian orchestrated play from midfield, showing his class with crisp passing and intelligent movement. He created two chances and was a constant threat. What stood out was his desire to drive the team forward.

Tino Livramento - 6.5: A solid if unspectacular outing on the flank. He was diligent with his defensive duties and kept possession well. He didn't provide a huge attacking threat, but it was a disciplined performance. He did what was asked of him without any fuss.

Lewis Miley - 6.5: The teenager looked composed and kept things ticking over. He played it safe for the most part, but his pass completion was high. It was a mature performance that showed good game intelligence, but lacked a creative spark.

Joe Willock - 6.0: We were impressed by his defensive contribution, winning 100% of his tackles. However, he was very quiet going forward and struggled to impact the game offensively. We honestly expected more from him before he was substituted.

Forwards

Jacob Murphy - 6.0: Had one of Newcastle's best openings with a shot on target in the first half. Besides that, he was largely anonymous and struggled to get involved. It was no surprise to see him taken off after an hour.

Nick Woltemade - 4.5: A day to forget for the striker. He was completely ineffective, losing 11 of his 14 duels and constantly losing possession. He struggled to hold up the ball and his movement was poor. A very disappointing performance.

Substitutes

Harvey Barnes - 6.0: Came on but couldn't find a way to influence the game's stagnant pattern.

Anthony Elanga - 6.0: Offered pace and directness but lacked the final product to make a difference.

Jamaal Lascelles - N/A: Brought on late to see out the draw.

William Osula - N/A: Had very little time to make any sort of impact.

Manager

E. Howe - 6.0: His team was defensively organized but lacked any real attacking ideas. The pragmatic approach secured a point but it was an uninspiring watch. His substitutions failed to change the course of the match.

Bournemouth Player Ratings vs Newcastle United

Here are the Bournemouth player ratings vs Newcastle United.

Goalkeeper

Djordje Petrovic - 6.5: He had very little to do for most of the game. He made one comfortable save to deny Jacob Murphy in the first half. It was a quiet afternoon, but he stayed alert and did his job when required.

Defenders

Adrien Truffert - 7.0: A very tidy and effective performance at the back. His positioning was excellent, and he was incredibly secure in possession with a 91% pass accuracy. He quietly went about his business and completely nullified the threat down his side.

Marcos Senesi - 7.0: A commanding display from the Argentinian. He was a magnet to the ball, with over 100 touches, and made a host of important clearances and interceptions. He organized the backline well and led by example throughout.

Bafodé Diakité - 7.5: An outstanding defensive performance. He was strong in the tackle, dominant in the air, and his passing was almost perfect. The only slight negative was a late yellow card, but it didn't detract from a superb display.

Álex Jiménez - 6.0: An eventful 45 minutes for the defender. He showed ambition getting forward but was rash and overly aggressive, earning a booking. His substitution at halftime felt inevitable after a few nervy moments.

Midfielders

Tyler Adams - 7.5: Bournemouth's standout performer for us. He was a ball of energy in midfield, snapping into tackles and constantly disrupting Newcastle's rhythm. He forced a good save from Pope and was a tenacious presence throughout the match.

David Brooks - 6.0: The captain tried to be the creative force for his team. He put in several crosses but his final ball lacked quality. It was a frustrating afternoon for him, and he was subbed after the hour.

Alex Scott - 6.5: A neat and tidy performance in the heart of midfield. He kept the ball moving and worked hard off the ball. He didn't offer a huge amount going forward but he was a reliable presence for his team.

Antoine Semenyo - 6.5: A performance full of effort but lacking in quality. His work rate was phenomenal, making 10 ball recoveries. However, he was often wasteful in possession and his decision-making in the final third let him down.

Marcus Tavernier - 5.5: A really poor showing. He lost the ball frequently and was dispossessed four times. He tried to take players on but was unsuccessful, losing the vast majority of his duels. It just wasn't his day.

Forwards

Evanilson - 5.5: A thankless task for the lone striker. He was completely isolated and starved of any real service. He battled against the Newcastle centre-backs but lost most of his aerial battles and couldn't hold up play effectively.

Substitutes

James Hill - 6.5: Replaced Jiménez at halftime and provided a much more solid and reliable presence.

Ryan Christie - 6.0: Brought on to add some spark but couldn't find a way through the resolute Newcastle defence.

Justin Kluivert - 6.5: Looked bright and lively after coming on, forcing a good late save from Pope.

Amine Adli - N/A: Came on for the final 15 minutes but had little time to make an impression.

Manager

A. Iraola - 6.5: His side was incredibly well-drilled and executed their defensive game plan perfectly. They frustrated Newcastle and earned a valuable point. A more adventurous approach might have yielded more, but he'll be pleased with the clean sheet.
