FC Goa 3–0 Jamshedpur FC Player Ratings: Manolo Marquez Finishes Things in Style as the Gaurs Grab the Super Cup

It was time for one showdown this season as FC Goa faced off against Jamshedpur FC at the land of battles – The Kalinga Stadium, for the mother of all battles, the Super Cup Final. Both teams have had an exceptional run in this tournament and will be hoping to have the same performance today and give it all on the pitch to bring glory to their team. FC Goa came to the pitch with a stunning win against Mohun Bagan, and Jamshedpur came with a one-goal win to march their way into the final.

Both teams had huge expectations as FC Goa under the philosophy of Manolo Marquez entered the game to seal their spot in Asia for the first time after 2017 and Jamshedpur under the tactics of Khalid Jamil to etch their name for the first time on a trophy and lift a silverware after the ISL Shield they won in the 2021-22 ISL season. Rather than a clash of two teams, it was a clash of individuals on and off the pitch.

The game began with Jamshedpur’s touch, and in the early seconds, Jamshedpur gave a tester to the Goan backline. Though it did not challenge the keeper, it set up the rhythm for the game. Jamshedpur had the tempo for the first 15 minutes, but the pace was low. The backline was high with both teams aiming to press each other’s half. Javi Hernandez made a shot from a very sharp angle, which was saved by Hritik as it came straight into his path. FC Goa made some attempts too, from the services of Drazic, Iker, and Borja, but none of them were worthy enough to challenge the Jamshedpur keeper.

In and around the mid-20th minute, Aakash Sanghwan made a shot from long range, which was not properly carried by Albino Gomez, and this deflection was properly capitalized by Borja, who took the ball and made a shot on target. But Stephen Eze came in front of the ball as the guardian when Albino was on the ground to keep the ball away. Khalid Jamil was seen shouting at the players to clear the ball as far as possible, but to the dismay of Eze, the defended ball went straight to Borja, who this time did not fumble and made a powerful shot on the top of the goal to break the deadlock.

Jamshedpur challenged the Gaurs through set pieces. Ashutosh made a beautiful flick in the second post, which did not find the back of the net as no player was present in the second post. Again from another corner, Rei made a header inside the box which was headed to the goal by Circovic, but to his bad luck hit the post. After this, there was not much significant attempt, and at half time the score was 1-0.

The second half began, and it was fueled with much more vigor to attack. FC Goa, once again with the services of Borja, found the back of the net for the second time. The talented Gaur made a solid run, getting past the pressure of Javi to make a long-distance shot that doubled the delight for his team. Minutes later, Drazic beat Albino with his run to easily score the third goal for FC Goa.

Later on, rain reduced the pace of the play, and both teams failed to make any attempts on the attack. It was FC Goa who held possession and won the Super Cup to FC Goa. Thus, at full time, the score was 3-0 in favor of the Gaurs.

Here are the FC Goa vs Jamshedpur FC Player Ratings.

GK – Hritik Tiwari – 6.5/10

Did ever so well to save the ball that came from the boots of Javi from a tight angle. Saw the danger early multiple times and came forward to collect the ball. Other than that, he wasn’t challenged for the vast majority of the match.

LB – Aakash Sangwan – 7/10

Marked Nikhil Barla pretty decently and kept him a bit caged. Made a long shot from a 25-30 yard distance, which laid the foundation for the first goal for FC Foa. Had some important touches which kept the ball away from Murray.

CB – Sandesh Jinghan – 6.5/10

Was there a first ball to clear all the balls that came from Javi? Had a great role in putting the ball out of play to give his team a sigh of relief and allowing them to breathe. He was solid in the backline and had a key role in thwarting the attacking tactics of the men of steel.

CB – Odei Onaindia – 6.5/10

Had to communicate in the backline and had to make it compact. Was key in making blocks and clearances whenever the Jamshedpur players posed threats against them. Was key in stopping a run by Siverio and made sure that he did not get space to score.

RB – Boris Singh – 6.5/10

Made some crosses inside the box after moving forward on the pitch. Though he had the intent to make crosses, none of them found the target. Stood firm and waited for Nikhil Barla to make the decision and then defend the ball. Nearly found the third goal when he made a shot from a tight angle.

CM – Sahil Tavora – 6.5/10

Won some duels in the midfield, but in some follow-ups, he made some disappointing passes. He was decent in the midfield and did not have a very big role or a solid contribution in the match. Had a mature performance in the midfield.

CM – Carl McHugh – 6.5/10

He put it in a very important place inside his box when Nikhil Barla caused problems. Was key in creating chances for his team, along with retreating whenever he felt his presence was required in the back. Won duels and was involved in some interceptions, and had a great display of action.

LW – Dejan Drazic – 7.5/10

Was key in the midfield, winning duels and making some key passes. Had some good vision of the pitch as he knew where Aakash was positioned. Faked receiving a ball to trick the opponents, which in reality straight away went to Aakash. Nikhil Barla, who failed to read this and did not mark Aakash, leading to his team’s first goal.

Put his ball between Javi and the ball to keep the opponents away from scoring. Made some dancing moves inside the opponent’s box and made a shot, but it did not beat Albino. Kept knocking on the door.

RW – Udanta Singh – 7/10

Tried to dribble in and make crosses from the right flank, but the player fell short under the strong challenge of Circovic. Whenever Uvais found space in the flanks, he was key in cutting it short. Made some important crosses inside the box to mount pressure on the opponents. Was good in the flanks and was having a pivotal role in adding extra work to the men in white.

AM – Borja Herrera – 8/10

Made some beautiful curling crosses from the right flank with his left foot. Made some very serious presses that prevented the opponent players from holding the ball. Was lurking inside the box, waiting for the opponents to make a mistake. When Albino made an error, he properly exploited that as he made a shot off the rebound, which, however, was saved by Eze.

But his presence of mind and experience came in handy as he once again collected the rebound and made a shot on the roof of the goal to break the deadlock and give his team the much-awaited opener. Took the jersey off in his celebration, which got him booked by the referee. Manolo, who was not ready to take risks, subbed him off in the sixty-fifth minute.

CF – Iker Guarrotxena – 6.5/10

Attempted some first-time shots, but none of them challenged Albino as they went very wide. Made some dribbles with the awareness that Borja was making an overlapping run. He was strong and was seen playing more physically. Though he was not in an apt position to make some shots, he ultimately took them, which, as expected, went way above the goal.

He was desperate to score and mark his contribution, but it did not work as expected. Got a chance in the very end of the match, but then Albino and the rain came as an obstacle.

Sub – Brison Fernandes – 6/10

Sub – Jay Gupta – 6/10

Sub – A. Chhetri – 6/10

Sub – M.Yasir – NA

Sub – Nim Dorjee – NA

Manager – Manolo Marquez – 8/10

Though his side was leading in the first half, he entered the tunnel with a sense of dissatisfaction as Jamshedpur. He was managing his last match for Goa and wanted to make it fruitful.

Put the best team possible to seal a spot in Asia. Took the bold move of withdrawing the goal scorer Borja in the second half.Had some good tactics for making long targeted shots that were pivotal for their win. Had the best sendoff one can get.

Stephen Eze attempting a corner (Credits X/@IndianFootball)

GK – Albino Gomez – 6/10

The keeper who secured clean sheets in all the matches of the tournament was not challenged a lot in the starting minutes, as his defence was pretty solid. However, when the ball came past them, he made a mistake as he failed to hold the ball, which led to the opponents scoring their first goal.

LB – Muhammed Uvais – 5/10

Positioned himself a little higher up the ranks and made some dribbles and crosses whenever he found some space on the wings. However, Udanta was a big obstacle in front of him. He was seen very less in the defensive role as he shifted his focus towards attacking.

CB – Lazar Cirkovic – 6/10

Stepped in strongly and made some interceptions to keep Udanta away from their fortress. Had the advantage of his height, with the help of which he made a header shot that, though it did not have the power, had the precision to shake the net. He was not lucky, however, as the ball hit the post, costing the equaliser. While coming to the defence, he was very weak as he left so much space in the final third.

CB – Stephen Eze – 6/10

Made a spectacular save off a shot from Borja when Albino was on the ground, which at the end of the day went in vain as the ball went straight to Borja, which was converted in the second attempt. Did not perform well in the defence after that, as the high-line defence failed to intercept the long-ball strategies of Goa.

RB – Ashutosh Mehta – 5.5/10

Gave a beautiful flick to the second post, which, however, did not reap any results as no players were there to tap in his ball, as they were focused on positioning themselves in the middle. Had a tough time in right back, and this struggle forced him to commit some fouls and get booked by the referee.

LM – Jordan Murray – 6/10

Looked very comfortable on the left as he made some easy dribbles passing the men in orange. However, while coming into the final third, he fumbled and lost the ball under the pressure of the defenders. Was seen on the right flank in some instances and had the responsibility of supporting Javi and providing him with balls inside the box.

CM – Pronay Halder – 6/10

Was involved in some important interceptions inside his half. While coming to defence, he failed miserably and gave away a lot of space, and the space was infiltrated by the Goan players, which caused trouble.

CM – Rei Tachikawa – 6/10

Took a shot from outside the box very early into the game. Gave a lofted header inside the box to Cirkovic, which, to his dismay, hit the post. He was good in the midfield and was one of the only players who had a reasonably good game.

RM – Nikhil Barla – 5/10

Tested the defence in the first half as he made a run and made a shot. Even though it was defended by Carl McHugh, this boosted the confidence of the player. Switched the flanks with Murray and was having an active role in making some runs on the left flank.

Waited a bit long and took some time to make decisions, which helped the opponents to gain composure and gave them time to make their moves. Did not follow Aakash, which cost his team, as that error was the basis of the opponent’s goal. But later in the game, the player was seen not performing well, which cost his team badly. It was below average.

CF – Javier Siverio – 5/10

Did not have a good day overall as he failed to make any big contribution for his team. Was succumbed to the defenders of Goa and struggled to tap in the balls that came from the wings. The one time he connected the ball and shook the net, it was ruled offside. Was seen

CF – Javi Hernandez – 6/10

Won the ball from Boris. Took a shot from a sharp angle inside the box that gave the first test to the keeper. Though he tried to attack, his attempts were nullified by the opponents. Did not put his entire body to defend Borja, which led to him taking a long-distance shot that ended up as a goal for the opponents. Tried his best to keep the shot of Drazic away from the ball, but he failed, leading to the opponent’s third goal.

Sub – Len Doungel – 6/10

Sub – Sanan – 6/10

Sub – Imran Khan – NA

Sub – Ritwik Das – NA

Manager – Khalid Jamil – 6/10

He was seen actively communicating with his players individually now and then, when the ball was out of play. Switched the positions of Murray and Nikhil Barla in the attacking third to keep the opponent’s side backs busy and prevent them from moving forward and making attacks. Felt like he did not make a proper selection, and he was unable to bring the motivation of the players when they were trailing.

Sportsdunia Player of the Match is Borja Herrera.
