Summary
Spain picked up a thrilling 1-0 win over Germany in the semifinal of the 2025 UEFA Women's Euros on Wednesday, 23 July 2025 at the Stadion Letzigrund. It took a clever goal from Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati deep into extra time to help Spain reach their first-ever Women's Euros finale.
Spain started dominating from the get-go but the first chance fell to Germany winger Klara Buhl, who put a shot wide in the 8th minute. Spanish forward Esther Gonzalez was heavily involved in the attacking line, having two goalbound shots denied by Ann-Katrin Berger in the first half. Spain skipper Irene Paredes also struck the bar, with both sides heading into half-time level.
Germany Women's Football Team started gaining confidence as the game went on. Klara Buhl had two attempts thwarted in the second half, including a free-kick going wide. In the 94th minute, Catalina Coll made a brilliant double save to deny Buhl and Carlotta Wamser to force extra time.
Both sides cancelled each other out for the majority of extra time. Just as a penalty shootout beckoned, Spain Women's Football Team midfielder Aitana Bonmati brilliantly powered a shot past Berger's near post to give Spain the lead in the 113th minute and seal a hard-fought win to take her side to the final. Here are our Germany Player Ratings from Spain vs Germany Women's Euro match:
Goalkeeper
Ann-Katrin Berger - 6.5/10
Berger maintained her heroics in the goal. She made an excellent save to deny Esther's goalbound shot in the first half and followed it with some more expert stops. After making seven saves, she was cruelly caught off-guard and allowed Bonmati's shot go through her near post.
Defenders
Carlotta Wamser - 7/10
Wamser was a hard-working figure at the back, covering a lot of ground and maintaining discipline with her movement. She worked hard to win many duels and regain possession, despite struggles with some long-balls.
Sophia Kleinherne - 7.5/10
Kleinherne was a bit sloppy with her passing, but maintained good positioning. She lost mark of Esther on a few occasions, but came up with some vital challenges and clearances to frustrate Spain.
Janina Minge -7.5/10
The Germany skipper read the Spanish moves well to make some key clearances. The passes from Minge weren't the most accurate, but she helped her side keep a strict defensive line.
Rebecca Knaak - 6.5/10
Knaak was a sturdy figure at the back, doing pretty well in dealing with Esther for the majority. She won most of her duels and made some key clearances to frustrate the opponents. Caught in a bad position for the goal.
Franziska Kett - 6/10
Kett had some trouble dealing with Spain's movement down her side. She lost way too many duels and failed to keep things neutralized on her side, often being outwitted.

Midfielders
Elisa Senss - 7/10
Senss was quite smart in moving the ball forward quickly on the transitions to help drive her side forward. Helped out defensively, but failed to help her side keep up in the possession battle.
Sara Dabritz - 6.5/10
The experienced Dabritz worked hard in the midfield to help close down gaps in the midfield. She made many valuable possession recoveries to help her side sustain pressure from the opponents.
Jule Brand - 5.5/10
Brand was a livewire in the wide areas, working hard to win many duels and help her side defensively. She did well in moving the ball forward, but failed to create much. Scuffed a big chance late on in extra time to create a big chance.
Klara Buhl - 6/10
Buhl was able to outwit the Spanish defenders many times in getting in some promising areas. However, she horribly put a big chance wide in the first half and had another one saved in the second half.
Forward
Giovanna Hoffmann - 5/10
Hoffman did a decent job with her hold-up play or linking-up, but lacked the ruthlessness with her final product. Failed to really test the goalkeeper or really get into any prominent positions.

Substitutes
Linda Dallman - 6/10
Dallman brought a lot of energy to the fray, winning quite a few duels and moving the ball around nicely.
Selina Cerci - 5.5/10
Cerci was able to move her side forward quickly and whipped in some inviting final passes, too.
Sydney Lohmann - N/R
Lohmann helped Germany maintain a decent defensive shape in extra time.
Lea Schuller - N/R
She had a top corner curler saved expertly after coming on, but failed to create much after that.
Manager
Christian Wuck - 7/10
Wuck did an admirable job in shaping up his Germany side in a sturdy manner despite some key absences. He ensured that his players kept a compact, stringent shape to frustrate Spain all game long. His players weren't as clinical on the transitions as he'd like, but did create nice chances. Unlucky to see his side defeated by an unnecessary error.

Defenders
Ona Batlle - 6/10
Battle was guilty of losing mark on Buhl on a few occasions, allowing her clear swipes at the goal. She was pretty energetic for most of the game, winning challenges and making key clearances.
Irene Paredes - 7.5/10
The 34-year-old Paredes held together a sturdy defensive line and commanded a tight backline. She was impressive in moving the ball forward, hitting the post in the first half, and made many key challenges too.
Maria Mendez - 7.5/10
Mendes held things together pretty nicely in her backline, anticipating the opposition's attacking moves to make some key possession recoveries and clearances.
Olga Carmona - 7/10
Carmona was made to work really hard on her side because of Germany's attacks. She lost quite a few duels, but was tenacious enough to frustrate the German players and keep things relatively secure on her side.

Midfielders
Patricia Guijarro - 8.5/10
Guijarro excelled in her deeper midfield role, creating multiple prominent chances with her excellent delivery into the box. She was impressive with her passes and won back possession many times to help Spain dominate the game.
Aitana Bonmati - 9/10
Bonmati was a livewire in the midfield line, always looking to get involved in driving her side forward with smart passes. She was efficient with her passing, setting up some notable chances, but failed to get to the end of major chances. Proved her class with a smashing finish for her goal.
Alexis Putellas - 6/10
Putellas was mostly neutralised in the midfield, losing quite a few duels and failing to play with utmost swagger. She couldn't really create that many big chances or produce anything special with her shooting.
Forwards
Mariona Caldentey - 6/10
Caldentey had a feisty battle in the wide areas, being involved in many duels and losing quite a few too. She was not really able to create any major chances despite nailing some of the crosses.
Claudia Pina - 7/10
Pina was a menacing threat on the left, often dribbling past her marker to get into the key areas. She created multiple major chances, but couldn't see her inviting delivery seized upon.
Esther Gonzalez - 4.5/10
Esther Gonzalez had a frustrating outing against Germany. She witnessed a few powerful shots denied in the first half and failed to bring that ruthlessness to her shots in the game. Taken off early in the second half after being booked.
Substitutes
Salma Paralluelo – 5.5/10
Parralluelo saw a cheeky backheel attempt saved in the dying stages of normal time. Booked later on.
Athena Del Castillo - 7.5/10
Del Castillo was clever with her movement, and she played the impressive pass to allow Bonmati to score the winner.
Cristina Martin-Prieto - 6/10
The experienced Martin-Prieto failed to really add that special spark in the frontline.
Manager
Montserrat Tome - 7/10
Tome might've had her side dominate possession and move the ball around quickly, but she couldn't tactically find any exploitation in Germany's backline. However, she continued pushing her players to keep going at the German backline and fortunately for her, Bonmati's brilliance helped her side reach the Women's Euro 2025 finale.
