Gibraltar vs Faroe Islands Player Ratings

Summary

  • Faroe Islands managed to narrowly win past Gibraltar in a close encounter.
  • Brandur Hendriksson was the highest rated player in the match.

This was a proper battle, a tense and gritty encounter at the Europa-Park Stadion that felt like it could have gone either way. The Faroe Islands' narrow 1-0 win over Gibraltar was decided by a single moment of composure in a match that was otherwise defined by hard tackles and defensive resilience. It wasn't a game for the purists, but it was a compelling contest in the WC Qualification Europe group stage. We noticed that the key difference was in the middle of the park. The visitors had a standout performer who dictated the tempo, while the hosts fought valiantly but just lacked that final bit of quality. The game was tight, with few clear-cut chances, and it always felt like one goal would settle it. And so it proved.

Gibraltar will feel hard done by; they defended with heart and created a couple of decent opportunities, especially a powerful header that was brilliantly saved. However, the Faroe Islands were more clinical when it mattered. Martin Agnarsson's goal was the culmination of their patient build-up play, securing a crucial away win in this match. Here are the Gibraltar vs Faroe Islands player ratings.

Faroe Islands Player Ratings vs Gibraltar

Here are the Faroe Islands player ratings.

Goalkeeper

Mattias Lamhauge - 7.5: Had to be alert and made a couple of crucial saves, most notably a fantastic stop to deny a powerful header in the second half. Commanded his box well and his distribution was decent. Picked up a late yellow for time-wasting, but you can't blame him. A well-earned clean sheet.

Defenders

Samuel Chukwudi - 7.0: A really solid and composed performance at the back. He won the majority of his duels and was comfortable on the ball, registering a high pass accuracy. Looked very assured throughout the game and didn't put a foot wrong.

Andrias Edmundsson - 7.5: What stood out to us was his dominance in the air. He made a massive 8 clearances and was a rock for his team. He seemed to be in the right place at the right time to snuff out danger. A proper old-school defensive display.

Gunnar Vatnhamar - 7.0: A quietly effective game. He was strong, won his aerial battles, and was very tidy in possession, barely giving the ball away. He provided a solid foundation that allowed his more adventurous teammates to push forward.

Midfielders

Géza Dávid Turi - 6.5: Showed some nice touches and kept the ball moving with high pass accuracy. However, he didn't really impose himself on the game in the final third. Was subbed off as the team looked for a winner, which felt like the right call.

Brandur Hendriksson - 8.0: The standout player on the pitch for us. As captain, he led by example, controlling the tempo from deep and his passing range was excellent. It was his creative spark that ultimately unlocked the Gibraltar defence for the assist. A true man of the match performance.

Martin Agnarsson - 7.5: The match-winner. He was a bundle of energy all game, making tireless runs and supporting both defence and attack. He took his goal with great composure, a clinical finish that decided the contest. A vital contribution.

Jann Benjaminsen - 6.0: Worked hard down the flank but struggled to make a telling impact on the game. He was caught offside a couple of times and seemed a bit frustrated before being substituted just before the hour mark.

Forwards

Jóannes Bjartalid - 5.5: A very quiet evening for the attacker. He was largely anonymous and struggled to get into the game, losing most of his duels. It wasn't a surprise to see him substituted early in the second half.

Páll Klettskard - 6.0: He was a physical presence up top and did manage to get a header on target. He battled hard with the Gibraltar centre-backs but couldn't find a way through before he was replaced.

Árni Frederiksberg - 6.5: Looked dangerous in patches and was unlucky to hit the woodwork. He showed flashes of skill but his final product was inconsistent, and he gave away possession a bit too often for our liking.

Substitutes

Jóannes Danielsen, Hanus Sørensen, Jóan Edmundsson, Jákup Andreasen, Meinhard Olsen - 6.5: The substitutes came on and did exactly what was required. They brought fresh energy, helped manage the game, and ensured the team saw out the 1-0 victory without any late drama.

Manager

E. Klakstein - 7.0: His game plan worked perfectly. He set his team up to be solid and patient, knowing one moment could win it. His substitutions were timed well to maintain control and see out the result. A very professional away performance orchestrated by the manager.

Gibraltar Player Ratings vs Faroe Islands

Here are the Gibraltar player ratings.

Goalkeeper

Bradley Banda - 7.0: Could do absolutely nothing about the goal, it was a well-taken finish. Otherwise, he was solid, making four saves to keep his team in the contest. A reliable performance from the man between the sticks.

Defenders

Julian Valarino - 7.5: He was arguably Gibraltar's best player before his unfortunate injury. Defensively sound, composed on the ball, and drew a remarkable five fouls. His departure was a big blow to the team's hopes of getting back into the game.

Patrick McClafferty - 7.0: A strong and committed performance. He was a warrior at the back, making 8 clearances and winning his aerial battles. He did everything he could to keep the visitors at bay.

Bernardo Lopes - 6.5: A mixed performance from our perspective. He made some crucial blocks and clearances but struggled against the physicality of the Faroe Islands' forwards, losing most of his aerial duels. A real battle for him.

Ethan Jolley - 6.0: Tried to get forward and support the attack, but his crossing was often wayward. He was caught out of position a few times, leaving space for the opposition to exploit. A tough night for the full-back.

Midfielders

Nicholas Pozo - 5.0: A night to forget for the young midfielder. He struggled to get a foothold in the game, lost possession cheaply, and picked up a needless yellow card. From our viewpoint, he looked a little off the pace.

James Scanlon - 6.0: He was full of energy and worked tirelessly to win the ball back for his team. However, his contribution in an attacking sense was minimal. A solid but unspectacular performance.

Carlos Richards - 5.5: A frustrating display. He got into some promising positions but his decision-making and final ball let him down. He lost possession far too many times and picked up a booking for his troubles.

Graeme Torrilla - 6.0: The captain led with passion and aggression, winning an impressive 10 duels. However, he missed a golden opportunity with a header and his early yellow card meant he had to walk a tightrope for much of the game.

Forwards

Tjay De Barr - 6.5: Gibraltar's most likely source of a goal. He was direct, created a couple of chances, and wasn't afraid to take players on. The downside was his tendency to lose the ball, which happened far too often and stalled his team's momentum.

Julian Del Rio - 5.5: He had a few shots but never really troubled the goalkeeper. He worked hard but lacked the cutting edge needed to make a difference before being substituted.

Substitutes

Ayoub El Hmidi, Dylan Borge, Kai Mauro, Liam Jessop - 6.0: The manager threw on substitutes to try and find an equalizer. They brought some fresh legs and urgency but ultimately couldn't break down a resolute Faroe Islands defence.

Manager

S. Wiseman - 6.5: He set his team up to be competitive and hard to beat, and for large spells, they were. Gibraltar fought for every ball and were well-organized. Unfortunately, his side just lacked that little bit of attacking spark to turn a solid performance into a positive result.
