Lyon hosted Fenerbahce in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League qualifier playoff final at the Groupama Stadium. With the tie at a 1-1 standstill, both teams had all to play for to occupy one of the seven remaining spots in the league phase of the main competition.

However, Olympique Lyonnais had their worst nightmares come true, as Fenerbahce opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Kosovo striker Vedat Muriqi. Just four minutes later, the second blow was landed by the Turkish outfit, as Archie Brown headed in a cross from Mason Greenwood to take the lead to two goals in the first half itself.

However, things started to change for Fenerbahçe SK as Lyon got a goal back in the 61st minute through Malick Fofana to create a tense atmosphere inside the stadium. Lois Openda thought he had brought the hosts right back into the game in the 64th minute, but his goal was deemed offside after a VAR check.

Luck just didn't seem to favour Lyon, as substitute Kaïl Boudache's strike in the 71st minute was again overturned by VAR, which seemed to be quite cruel at tha point.
