Newcastle vs Tottenham Player Ratings: Cristian Romero 9/10 Rated as the Spurs Snatch a Dramatic Draw

Summary
What an absolutely bonkers game of football we just witnessed at St. James' Park. This Premier League clash had everything. From our perspective, Newcastle United will feel utterly robbed, while Tottenham Hotspur will feel like they've stolen a point right at the death.
The match was a chaotic, end-to-end spectacle, particularly in a second half that exploded into life. Newcastle looked to have secured a massive victory after substitute Anthony Gordon coolly dispatched an 86th-minute penalty. The home fans were in dreamland, but they forgot about one man.
Spurs captain Cristian Romero, already on the scoresheet once, decided to play as a makeshift striker in the dying moments and it paid off spectacularly. He popped up in the fifth minute of stoppage time to smash home an equalizer, silencing the stadium and rescuing an unlikely point in this unforgettable match. A truly wild finish to a memorable game. Here are Sportsdunia's Newcastle vs Tottenham player ratings.

Goalkeeper
Aaron Ramsdale - 6.0: Couldn't do much about either of Romero's goals, which were both powerful efforts from close range. He made a couple of decent high claims and his distribution was okay, but he wasn't tested nearly enough for the goals his team conceded. A relatively quiet day punctuated by picking the ball out of his net twice.
Defenders
Tino Livramento - 7.0: We were really impressed by his composure. To have 100% pass accuracy is just ridiculous for a fullback. He was solid defensively making a couple of important tackles and clearances and looked comfortable all game. A very mature performance.
Malick Thiaw - 6.0: A slightly nervy performance from the centre-back. He missed a decent headed chance in the first half and lost a few too many of his duels for our liking. While his passing was secure, he seemed a step off the pace at times against Spurs' attack.
Dan Burn - 8.0: What a colossal performance from the captain. He was an absolute monster in the air, winning 7 of his 9 aerial duels and making a massive 9 clearances. He was instrumental in winning the penalty that almost won his team the game. A true leader's display.
Lewis Hall - 7.5: An all-action display from the left-back. He was everywhere, winning a remarkable 8 out of 12 duels and making 4 successful tackles. He was a constant outlet down the left flank, though his final ball could have been better at times. A tireless and effective showing.

Midfielders
Joelinton - 6.5: A performance full of hard work but lacking in quality. He hit the woodwork with one effort and recovered the ball an impressive 10 times, showing his tenacity. However, he was dispossessed four times and sometimes struggled to impact the game in the final third.
Sandro Tonali - 6.5: Only played the first 45 minutes but was incredibly tidy in possession, barely misplacing a pass. He kept things ticking over nicely but didn't offer a huge amount of penetration before being substituted at halftime. A solid, if unspectacular, half.
Lewis Miley - 7.5: This kid is special. He was a constant threat, forcing a great save from Vicario and always looking to drive forward. He won a surprising number of aerial duels and showed a maturity far beyond his years. An exciting talent who was a thorn in Spurs' side.
Forwards
Jacob Murphy - 7.0: Caused all sorts of problems down the right wing in his 66 minutes. He created three chances and was a willing runner, but his final product was frustratingly inconsistent. Missed a couple of decent chances that he'll feel he should have done better with.
Harvey Barnes - 6.5: Got into some promising positions and had one shot on target, but like Murphy, he couldn't provide that killer touch. He worked hard off the ball but was another who was let down by his decision-making in the final moment. Subbed after an hour.
Nick Woltemade - 7.0: A frustrating but ultimately productive night. He was caught offside three times which killed some attacks, but he also provided an assist and created three key passes. His work rate was immense, and he was a real handful even if his finishing was wayward.

Substitutes
Bruno Guimarães - 8.0: Came on at half-time and completely changed the game. He provided the drive and quality Newcastle were missing, capping his performance with a superb opening goal. An outstanding impact from the bench.
Anthony Gordon - 7.5: Another substitute who made a massive impact. He showed nerves of steel to step up and confidently convert the late penalty that looked to have won the game. A dream contribution.
Anthony Elanga - N/A: Didn't have enough time to make a real impact.
Fabian Schär - N/A: Brought on in injury time to shore things up, but couldn't prevent the late equaliser.
Manager
E. Howe - 7.5: His tactical switches and substitutions were almost perfect. Bringing on Guimarães and Gordon proved to be masterstrokes as both scored. He set his team up to be aggressive and they nearly got the reward. Can't be blamed for a centre-back scoring a brace.

Goalkeeper
Guglielmo Vicario - 7.0: Made four crucial saves, including a brilliant stop to deny Lewis Miley. He was commanding with his punches and couldn't have done much for either of the goals he conceded. He kept Spurs in the game when they were under heavy pressure.
Defenders
Pedro Porro - 6.0: A difficult evening for the fullback. He was guilty of an error that led to a shot and struggled to deal with Newcastle's wide players. His delivery from crosses was also below his usual high standards. Just not his day.
Cristian Romero - 9.0: The absolute hero of the day. He was his usual aggressive self, earning a yellow card, but his contribution at the other end was simply stunning. Scoring two goals as a central defender, including a 95th-minute equaliser, is the stuff of legend. An unbelievable, man-of-the-match performance.
Kevin Danso - 7.5: From our perspective, this was a very strong showing. He was a dominant presence, making a game-high 11 clearances and blocking two shots. He read the danger exceptionally well and was a calming influence at the back while chaos ensued around him.
Destiny Udogie - 5.5: A night to forget for the young defender. He was dribbled past three times and struggled to contain his side of the pitch. He lost possession too easily and didn't offer the attacking threat we know he's capable of. Looked out of sorts.

Midfielders
Rodrigo Bentancur - 4.5: A really poor performance that almost cost his team the game. He looked off the pace all night, committing three fouls and earning a yellow card. The clumsy challenge to give away the penalty was a moment of madness he'll want to forget quickly.
Pape Matar Sarr - 5.5: He was largely anonymous in the midfield battle. Lost 9 of his 13 duels and failed to impose himself on the game. It was no surprise to see him substituted as Spurs searched for a way back into the match.
Brennan Johnson - 5.0: An ineffective display. He struggled to get involved, completing only 12 passes and losing the ball frequently. Was caught offside once and failed to create anything of note before being hooked. A very quiet outing.
Lucas Bergvall - 6.0: Showed some bright sparks and energy but missed a big chance in the first half that could have changed the game. He got into good positions but his final product wasn't quite there. A learning experience for the youngster.
Mohammed Kudus - 7.5: The main creative force for Spurs for much of the game. He provided a brilliant assist for Romero's first goal and created two big chances in total. He was always looking to make things happen, even if he did fade a bit later on.
Forwards
Randal Kolo Muani - 6.5: A tireless performance leading the line. He battled hard, winning 9 duels, but was often isolated and received little service. It was a thankless task for him, and he worked his socks off without getting a clear sight of goal.
Substitutes
Mathys Tel - 6.0: Brought on to add some energy but didn't see much of the ball.
Richarlison - 6.0: Came on and immediately got himself booked for dissent. Didn't offer much else.
Xavi Simons - 6.0: Had one shot blocked but couldn't find a way through the Newcastle defence.
Archie Gray - N/A: Not on long enough to rate.
Wilson Odobert - N/A: A late cameo with little involvement.
Manager
T. Frank - 6.5: His team was outplayed for large portions of this match and looked tactically second best. However, he deserves credit for the sheer fighting spirit he has instilled in his squad. Pushing Romero forward was a desperate, but ultimately genius, move that salvaged a point from the jaws of defeat.
