Nottingham Forest 1-1 Aston Villa Player Ratings: Neco Williams 8.5/10 MOTM as Villans and the Tricky Trees Share Spoil in a Tense 1-1 Draw

Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa Player Ratings

A pulsating Premier League encounter at The City Ground saw Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa fight to a hard-earned 1-1 draw. From our perspective, this was a game of fine margins, ultimately decided by a moment of misfortune and a flash of brilliance. The visitors, Aston Villa, found themselves ahead through a deeply unfortunate own goal from Murillo in the 23rd minute, a moment that seemed to deflate the home crowd.

However, the response from Forest was spirited. It was a true test of character. They didn't let their heads drop and were rewarded before halftime. Neco Williams unleashed a spectacular strike from distance that found the back of the net, leveling the scores and breathing new life into the match. It was a goal worthy of winning any game.

The second half was a tense, cagey affair with both sides pushing for a winner. Aston Villa came agonizingly close when Morgan Rogers saw his effort crash against the woodwork. Both goalkeepers were called into action, and in the end, a draw felt like a fair, if slightly frustrating, result for both teams, who showed plenty of fight but lacked that final clinical touch. Here are Sportsdunia's Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa player ratings.

Aston Villa Player Ratings vs Nottingham Forest

Check out the Aston Villa player ratings vs Nottingham Forest.

Goalkeeper

Marco Bizot - 7.0/10: We thought Bizot had a solid game. He made four saves, one of which was a crucial stop from inside the box. He couldn't have done much about the stunning goal from Neco Williams. His distribution was decent, and he commanded his area well, especially with one good high claim.

Defenders

Matty Cash - 6.0/10: An energetic but erratic performance from Cash. He picked up an early yellow card, which seemed to affect him. What stood out to us was his willingness to get forward, whipping in seven crosses, but he was wasteful in possession, losing it 20 times.

Victor Lindelöf - 6.5/10: He'll be having nightmares about the header he missed from close range. It was a huge chance to be a hero. Apart from that moment, his passing was incredibly secure, with a 95% completion rate. Defensively, he was steady but not spectacular.

Pau Torres - 6.5/10: A typical Pau Torres performance in many ways, very involved in the build-up with 74 passes. However, from our perspective, he seemed a little vulnerable defensively. He lost four of his duels and was dispossessed once. Not his most commanding display.

Lucas Digne - 6.5/10: A decent shift from the Frenchman before he was substituted. He was a good outlet on the left and delivered two key passes for his teammates. Defensively, he won six of his ten duels and made four tackles. He did his job without too much fuss.

Midfielders

Ross Barkley - 7.0/10: Looked very comfortable on the ball and kept things ticking over in midfield. We were impressed with his dribbling, successfully navigating past opponents twice. He didn't dominate the game, but he was a tidy and effective presence before being taken off.

John McGinn - 7.5/10: The captain led by example with a typically all-action display. He was a constant nuisance, winning six duels and completing four dribbles. He drove his team forward but his yellow card was a result of his relentless energy sometimes boiling over. A warrior's performance.

Youri Tielemans - 7.0/10: A real workhorse in the engine room. What we noticed was his defensive contribution; three tackles and an interception showed his commitment. He also contributed two key passes, proving his value at both ends of the pitch. A very balanced performance.

Amadou Onana - 7.5/10: Onana was a colossal presence in midfield. He won a staggering 71% of his duels and had a 92% pass accuracy. He was instrumental in breaking up Forest's attacks and recycling possession for Villa. We thought he was one of Villa's best players on the day.

Morgan Rogers - 6.5/10: A frustrating afternoon for the youngster. He was so unlucky to see his shot hit the woodwork in the first half. However, he also missed a big chance and was a bit loose in possession, losing it 13 times. You can see the talent, but the final product was missing here.

Forwards

Ollie Watkins - 6.0/10: A surprisingly quiet game for Ollie Watkins. He just couldn't seem to get into the match. He was dispossessed three times and only managed one shot which was blocked. He battled hard but it was a struggle for him to make an impact.

Substitutes

Douglas Luiz, Ian Maatsen, Emiliano Buendía, Tammy Abraham: The substitutes came on but struggled to change the tide of the game. They brought fresh legs but couldn't find that decisive moment to snatch a late winner for Aston Villa.

Manager

U. Emery Etxegoien - 6.5/10: His team got a slice of luck for the opening goal but couldn't build on it. The decision to withdraw Ross Barkley was a bit of a head-scratcher from our perspective. While a point away from home is never bad, he might feel this was an opportunity missed to grab all three.

Nottingham Forest Player Ratings vs Aston Villa

Here are the Nottingham Forest player ratings vs Aston Villa.

Goalkeeper

Matz Sels - 7.5/10: A really strong showing from Sels. He was left helpless for the own goal but made five crucial saves to keep his team level, including three from shots inside the box. He was a commanding and reassuring presence for the Nottingham Forest backline.

Defenders

Neco Williams - 8.5/10: Without a doubt, the Man of the Match. His goal was an absolute thunderbolt that lifted the entire stadium. Beyond that, he was a constant threat, firing off four shots and putting in nine crosses. Defensively, he was solid too, winning all three of his tackles. An outstanding performance and our highest-rated player.

Murillo - 5.5/10: A day to forget for the defender. The own goal was incredibly unfortunate, a moment of sheer bad luck that put his team on the back foot. He picked up a yellow card and committed four fouls, showing signs of his struggle throughout the game. A tough afternoon.

Nikola Milenković - 6.5/10: A steady and reliable partner in central defense. He was neat on the ball with 94% pass accuracy and won five of his six duels. He kept Ollie Watkins quiet for large parts of the game. A solid, no-frills defensive performance.

Ola Aina - 8.0/10: We were hugely impressed with Ola Aina before he was subbed off. He was immense, winning seven of his eight duels and boasting a 100% tackle success rate. He also contributed two key passes going forward. It was a complete wing-back performance.

Midfielders

Ibrahim Sangaré - 7.0/10: Sangaré provided an excellent shield for the back four. He was everywhere, making four tackles and recovering the ball six times. He did the dirty work effectively, allowing the more creative players ahead of him to flourish. A very important, if understated, role.

Callum Hudson-Odoi - 8.0/10: Forest's creative spark. He provided the assist for the goal and created a whopping five key passes throughout the match. His movement and vision caused Aston Villa problems all game. From our perspective, he was at the heart of everything good Forest did offensively.

Elliot Anderson - 7.0/10: A real grafter in the midfield. What stood out to us was his incredible work rate, evidenced by his ten ball recoveries. He was tidy in possession and kept the game moving. A disciplined and hard-working performance.

Morgan Gibbs-White - 6.0/10: A strangely subdued performance from the captain. He got into some good positions and had three shots but couldn't find his usual rhythm. He looked a little frustrated at times and it wasn't a surprise to see him substituted.

Omari Hutchinson - 5.5/10: A difficult game for Hutchinson. He was full of energy but lacked composure, losing possession 11 times and picking up a needless yellow card. He struggled to make a telling impact before being withdrawn after 65 minutes.

Forwards

Igor Jesus - 6.0/10: He led the line with effort but lacked the quality to make a real difference. He battled for aerial balls but often came up short and his finishing was wayward. A frustrating outing where his hard work didn't translate into goals.

Substitutes

Chris Wood, Nicolás Domínguez, Ryan Yates, Dan Ndoye: Came on to see the game out. They helped maintain the team's structure and energy levels as Forest secured a valuable point at home.

Manager

V. de Oliveira Lopes Pereira - 7.0/10: His side showed fantastic character to fight back after the early setback of an own goal. The tactical setup was solid, and they deserved their point. He'll be particularly pleased with the performances of Neco Williams and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
