Nottm Forest 0-1 Arsenal Player Ratings: Declan Rice 8.1/10 as the Gunners Grind Out a Vital City Ground Win Through Madueke’s Late Strike

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal arrived at the City Ground knowing that dropped points against an Oliver Glasner side renowned for their defensive organisation and home resilience would represent a damaging blow to their Premier League title ambitions, and for 79 tense, uncomfortable minutes, that outcome looked entirely plausible against a Forest side that compressed the pitch with disciplined, collective intelligence that gave the Gunners absolutely no space to work with in their preferred attacking patterns.

Noni Madueke’s 80th-minute strike was the moment of clinical quality that separated two sides in an evening that had threatened to end in a frustrating stalemate, his composed finish demonstrating the decisive edge that title-winning sides must possess when results refuse to come easily. Arsenal’s resilience and collective determination to find a winning goal against a deep, organised Forest block underlined the mentality Arteta has instilled throughout this squad.

Declan Rice was Arsenal’s most authoritative and consistent performer across the full 90 minutes, his defensive intelligence, pressing intensity, and ability to control the game’s tempo from deep earning a thoroughly deserved 8.1/10 rating that reflects a complete midfield display. The England captain’s influence was most acutely felt in the moments Nottingham Forest threatened on the counter, his interceptions and recovery runs repeatedly preventing the kind of transition chances that Glasner’s side had exploited so effectively against higher-ranked opponents earlier this season.
