Summary

  • The dominant PAOK side were halted by Maccabi Tel Aviv in a tense 0-0 draw in the 1st gameweek of the 2025/26 Europa League season.
  • Tyrese Asante received the highest player rating in this match for his impressive defensive contribution.
  • Dor Peretz was one of the least rated players as he failed to convert on big chances.

A fiercely contested Europa League clash at Stadio Toumbas ended in a frustrating stalemate. Both PAOK and Maccabi Tel Aviv will feel they could have snatched all three points. The match was a cagey affair, punctuated by moments of real intensity. From our perspective, the game hinged on a few key events.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead in the first half, as Dor Peretz found the back of the net, but their celebrations were cut short. VAR intervened, disallowing the goal for an offside in the build-up. It was a massive let-off for the home side. They seemed to wake up after that scare.

PAOK controlled much of the possession and peppered the opposition's goal. They registered a staggering 20 shots throughout the match. However, a combination of wasteful finishing and heroic goalkeeping kept them at bay. The visitors defended with immense spirit, blocking shots and throwing bodies on the line to secure a valuable away point. Here are the PAOK vs Maccabi Tel Aviv player ratings.

PAOK Player Ratings vs Maccabi Tel Aviv

Here are the PAOK player ratings vsMaccabi Tel Aviv.

Goalkeeper

Jiri Pavlenka - 7.0: A relatively quiet evening for the shot-stopper but he was alert when called upon. He made three crucial saves to preserve his clean sheet. One of those stops from inside the box was particularly important. We did notice one error that led to a shot, a slightly nervy moment. Overall, a solid performance that contributed to the point.

Defenders

Jonjoe Kenny - 6.5: A bit of a mixed performance from the right-back. He was booked for a cynical foul in the first half. Defensively, he was solid enough, winning most of his duels and making three tackles. Going forward, however, his final ball was lacking. Only one of his five crosses found a teammate which was frustrating.

Giannis Michailidis - 7.0: The central defender had a busy night and stood up to the task well. He was a commanding presence, making seven clearances and demonstrating composure on the ball with 84% pass accuracy. What stood out to us was his reading of the game, making a key interception. He was a steadying influence at the heart of the defence.

Tomasz Kedziora - 7.0: A very composed and tidy display. His passing was near-perfect, helping PAOK build from the back. He made three clearances and put his body on the line with two blocked shots. He didn't do anything spectacular, but he did his job effectively and without fuss. A reliable performance.

Abdul Rahman Baba - 6.5: An industrious but ultimately frustrating performance from the left-back. He worked hard up and down the flank, recovering the ball five times. However, he lost possession ten times and was dispossessed once. He got into some good positions but couldn't provide the quality needed in the final third.

Midfielders

Soualiho Meïté - 7.5: From our perspective, he was one of PAOK's best players. The midfielder was a dominant force, winning an incredible eight out of nine duels. He drove forward with purpose, completing two successful dribbles and always looking to break the lines. A real all-action display that deserved to be on the winning side.

Taison - 6.5: He was certainly involved but his end product was poor. The Brazilian had three shots and missed a genuine big chance that could have changed the game. He created a couple of opportunities for others but lost the ball far too often. It felt like a night where he tried too hard to make something happen.

Andrija Zivkovic - 6.5: The captain put in a real shift but it just wasn't his night. He was a constant outlet, but his delivery was surprisingly poor, with only one of his thirteen crosses being accurate. He lost possession a staggering 21 times. You can't fault his effort, but the quality was missing when it mattered.

Magomed Ozdoev - 6.5: A decent, if unspectacular, outing before being substituted. He was tidy in possession and created two chances for his teammates. However, he also gave away three fouls and didn't really impose himself on the midfield battle. A functional performance but the team needed more incision.

Giannis Konstantelias - 7.0: One of the few creative sparks for the home side. He always looked to take players on, completing three dribbles and drawing several fouls. He created two chances and forced a good save from the keeper. He was a bright light in a frustrating attacking performance before he was subbed off.

Forwards

Georgios Giakoumakis - 6.0: A very difficult and isolated evening for the striker. He was starved of service and lost a high number of his physical duels. He had a couple of efforts off target but never really looked like scoring. It was a tough slog for him before he was replaced in the second half.

Substitutes

Kiril Despodov - 6.5: Came on for Taison and provided some fresh energy. His crossing was an improvement, creating a decent chance from a corner.

Mady Camara - 6.5: Replaced Ozdoev and was immediately involved. Had a couple of headers and shots that troubled the defence but couldn't find the breakthrough.

Fedor Chalov - 6.0: Had one good chance late on that was well saved. Was caught offside once. Didn't have enough time to truly make an impact.

Luka Ivanusec - N/A: Came on too late to receive a rating but did set up a chance for Chalov.

Manager

R. Lucescu - 6.5: His team dominated the game in terms of stats but lacked the cutting edge. They looked predictable at times, struggling to break down a resolute defence. The substitutions added some impetus, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. A frustrating night for the manager.

Maccabi Tel Aviv Player Ratings vs PAOK

Here are the Maccabi Tel Aviv player ratings vs PAOK.

Goalkeeper

Roi Mishpati - 8.0: A heroic performance from the visiting keeper. He was the main reason his team are heading home with a point. He made four crucial saves, including three from inside his box, and commanded his area well with three punches. An excellent, confident display under pressure.

Defenders

Roy Revivo - 6.5: It was a challenging night for the left-back. He was tenacious, making six clearances, but he struggled in his one-on-one battles, losing seven duels. He was also caught offside on a promising attack. He stuck to his task but found it difficult against PAOK's attackers.

Mohamed Camara - 7.5: A colossal performance at the back. His pass accuracy of 98% was simply outstanding, showing immense composure. He made seven clearances and two blocked shots, acting as a human shield for his goal. A yellow card was the only blot on an otherwise superb defensive copybook.

Tyrese Asante - 8.5: Our man of the match. What a performance. He was everywhere, making a phenomenal six tackles and winning ten of his seventeen duels. The highlight was a sensational goal-line clearance that single-handedly saved a certain goal. An absolutely dominant and decisive display of defending.

Raz Shlomo - 6.5: He had a mixed game. While he made six important clearances, his distribution was erratic. He attempted 19 long balls but only found his target 47% of the time, often surrendering possession. He was solid defensively for the most part but needed to be tidier on the ball.

Midfielders

Kervin Andrade - 6.5: A performance of highs and lows. He showed his creative side by setting up a big chance for a teammate. Unfortunately, he also missed a gilt-edged opportunity himself. It was a classic case of what could have been for the midfielder.

Sagiv Jehezkel - 7.0: He was a lively and tricky customer all evening. He drew several fouls and was a constant thorn in the side of the PAOK defence. He created one chance and had a shot blocked. A really positive and energetic performance before he was substituted.

Kristijan Belic - 5.5: A night to forget for the midfielder. He was overzealous in the challenge, committing four fouls and picking up a late yellow card. He struggled to get a foothold in the game and was dribbled past three times. He looked off the pace.

Issouf Sissokho - 7.0: An incredibly tidy and efficient performance. He completed 100% of his passes, which is remarkable. He kept things simple, broke up play with an interception, and protected his back four diligently. A really mature and composed display in the engine room.

Osher Davida - 6.0: He worked hard but lacked the quality to make a difference. He created one big chance but was largely anonymous otherwise. He lost seven duels and sent both of his shots off target. A frustrating outing for the winger.

Forwards

Dor Peretz - 5.0: It just wasn't his night. The captain had a goal correctly disallowed by VAR which must have been a huge blow. To compound his misery, he missed two big chances that a player of his quality should be scoring. A deeply frustrating performance from the striker.

Hélio Varela - 6.0: Brought on to offer some pace on the counter but saw little of the ball.

Elad Madmon - N/A: Not on long enough to be rated.

Ido Shahar - N/A: A very late substitute to help see out the draw.

Manager

Ž. Lazetić - 7.5: He will be delighted with this result. His tactical plan worked to perfection. His team defended with incredible organization and spirit, frustrating a superior team on paper. They rode their luck with the VAR call but earned their point through sheer hard work and discipline. A tactical masterclass on the road.
