Saudi Arabia U23 were playing their first game of the Asian Games 2026 group stages, and their opponent was the bottom-placed team in Group D, Qatar U23. Although the game was quite even in possession and number of shots attempted in the first half, it was Saudi Arabia who had their noses in front.

In the 38th minute, Sabri Dahal's cross was met beautifully by Mohammed Barnawi to give the Saudi U23 national football team the lead. The Green Falcons started the second half just where they left off in the first half, as they bagged a second through Eyad Houssa in the 47th minute.

Despite all their efforts, Qatar U23 managed just one shot on target, which highlights their toothless attack and ultimately cost them the game. They had some really good chances at the tail end of the game but just couldn't make them count.

This defeat knocked Qatar U23 out of the group stages, while Saudi Arabia U23 will look forward to playing South Korea U23, which will ultimately decide the group topper of this group.
