South Korea 1-4 Uruguay Player Ratings: Diego Forlan's Men Put Four Past South Korea As Kang-In Lee's Goal Merely Proved To Be A Consolation

Uruguay were coming off a disheartening stoppage-time defeat against Japan to take on another Asian team in the form of South Korea. The Taegeuk Warriors saw off Ecuador in the last game and were looking to continue their good scoring form.

The South Korea national football team had more possession, but they did little to impress with all that. Zero shots on target in the first half showed they were not as clinical as their opponents, who seized every opportunity they were served with.

The opening goal of the game came from Darwin Núñez, as a gritty play on the left-hand side where tackles were flying through, Maxi Araújo played the Al Diriyah in behind the defence, making him go one-on-one with the keeper.

Núñez took two touches before finishing it past Seung-Gyu Kim to give the Uruguay national football team the lead in the 13th minute. The second goal followed in the 27th minute, as Darwin Núñez held up a long ball nicely in the South Korea penalty box and played it back for Maxi Araújo.

He then laid it off to Giorgian De Arrascaeta, who was arriving at the edge of the box, and the Flamengo midfielder curled one at Seung-Gyu Kim's first post to leave Diego Forlan quite ecstatic on the touchline.

La Celeste dealt the killer blow just before half-time, as a swift bit of play on the right-hand side, followed by the overcommitment of centre-back Min-Jae Kim, put Guillermo Varela in acres of space to surge forward with the ball.

The wingback drove into the box and side-footed it at the far post, as the South Korean defenders saw the ball agonizingly roll into the back of the net. Darwin Núñez bagged his brace in the 62nd minute, as Varela put in a teasing cross for the former Liverpool forward to head home, being completely unmarked.

The Taegeuk Warriors got a consolation goal in the 80th minute, as Kang-In Lee tried to find Heung-Min Son in the box with a left-footed cross, but neither the former Tottenham player nor any of the Uruguayan defenders got a touch, as the ball nestled into the far post almost unexpectedly.

A much-needed comeback from Diego Forlan's men, who played like a proper South American team. Meanwhile, South Korea were out of gas after the 60th-minute mark, which was clearly visible in their output.
