The first leg of the ASEAN Championship (ASEAN Hyundai Cup) 2026 at the Rajamangala National Stadium left the Thai fans disappointed as the hosts were handed a 2-0 defeat in their own backyard by 3-time champions Vietnam.

The second goal happened just seven minutes later when Do Hoàng Hên's cross was met by Nguyen Quang Hai at the far post, and the shot crept just under the hands of Pathomakkakul, who should have done better at this level of professional football.

In the end, it is the Vietnam national football team that take home a huge advantage, while Thailand need to get back to their drawing board to find out the gaps before travelling to Vietnam for the second leg in the hope of a possible comeback.
