Algerian Football Federation (AFF)

The governing body of the Algerian national football team, the Algerian Football Federation (AFF) was founded in 1962, the same year the Fennecs came into existence. The AFF led the path to build the official national team of the country. The twenty-structured organisation now supervises both men's and women's teams of Algeria. Headquartered in the capital of the country, Algiers, the Algerian Football Federation earned the FIFA affiliation in 1963. The current president of the governing body of the AFF is Walid Sadi.

History of Algeria National Football Team: Early Years

The history of the Algeria national football team is time-tested. The nation, after coming under the umbrella of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) played their first game against Bulgaria in 1963, and got off to a winning start. Just after gaining independence, they transformed football into a symbol of unity to give hope to the common people of Algeria. From stunning everyone in the 1982 World Cup to winning the 1990 Africa Cup of Nations, the Fennecs left no stone unturned in cementing their legacy in the continental sphere.
To date, the Algeria football team has made five appearances in the global tournament, reflecting their willingness to be considered amongst the elites in African football. Their last trophy in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup highlights their continuous growth in the game.

Home Stadium of Algeria National Football Team

The Algeria national football stadium is Nelson Mandela Stadium, a modern sporting facility located in Baraki. The venue was officially opened in 2023 after a decade-long wait and a series of political turmoil in the country. Over 300 million euros were spent on the construction of the state-of-the-art football stadium in the heart of Algiers. The venue, with a seating capacity of around 41,000 was declared the national stadium during the inauguration in 2023.
Many are now aware of the fact that the Nelson Mandela Stadium was formerly known as the Abdelhamid Kermani, the former Algeria National Football Team manager. But later the supreme authority of the country's government decided to go with Mandela's name for his contribution to the development of the African continent and its people. The stadium hosted its first official match in 2023 when Algeria A and Libya A faced off in the 2022 African Nations Championship. Apart from this, the Algeria football team have also been playing their home games in two other historical stadiums - 5 July Stadium and Miloud Hadefi Stadium.

The Fennecs have a glorious history of winning trophies in major tournaments including the continental championship. Their proud list of achievements is boasted by their two prized possessions - the 1990 and the 2019 AFCON titles. The Algeria national football team's title hunger came into display when they cruised to the championship victory in emphatic fashion, having remained undefeated throughout the whole tournament.
