The DR Congo National Football Team is one of the most prolific sides in African football. The CAF nation emerged in the world of competitive football in the early 1960s and later endured gritty tests throughout their journey to stay afloat in the regional and global event. Once built on the identity of local pride and unity, the Panthers turned the passion for the game into a national identity after getting their independence.
Despite being downtrodden in the early years by big nations in the continent, the DR Congo football team stamped their authority in 1968 after lifting the AFCON trophy. Players like Ndaye Mulamba and Kalala Mukendi shaped the history of Congo DR after lighting up the stage of the 1974 FIFA World Cup, the only time the country has featured in this tournament so far. But, later they found themselves in a bit of turbulence due to continuous political shifts in the country and war-like situation in the whole continent. All these hurdles were blown away by the unwavering spirit of the Congolese people and they built a team of young blood and experienced veterans, who gained experience in European football.
