Levante UD is a mid-table Spanish club that currently plays in La Liga. Founded back in 1909 in the coastal region of Valencia, it is one of the oldest football clubs in the country. If you look at the Levante UD history then you will notice a story of resilience, regional culture and underdog spirit. The name Levante also represents the beautiful landscape of the Eastern coastal region of Spain, where the sun beams hit the country for the first time daily. In Spanish, it means Levantar and this is the place where the Levant wind maintains a soothing air quality. As the old Levante Football Club used to play their games in the initial days on the coast, it was named Levante UD.
Over the years, it has wandered across the Spanish leagues, especially those of La Liga and Segunda Division, without establishing itself amongst the big clubs in the country. However, it has always carried its regional legacy with it. Maybe it doesn't have a massive global fanbase, but its supporters are loyal, passionate, and loud, and give everything from the stands during the match against the club's local rivals, Valencia.
After spending 3-4 years in the Segunda Division, it has returned to La Liga this term, having won the second division title last season. Despite some setbacks on the pitch, the Levante club management runs a modest operation compared to the big guns of the Spanish top flight. Backed by some regular and trustworthy sponsors, Granotes continue to fight for titles, which are scarce in their history so far. But the courage and perseverance they have shown every time they got onto the pitch define their heritage and unique identity.
