Parma Calcio 1913 are a professional club playing in the Italian Serie A. The club made a return to Serie A after winning Serie B recently. Based in the city of Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Parma wre one of the most successful Italian football teams of the 20th century, with domestic cups and European titles.

The club was home to legends such as Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Lilian Thuram, Hernan Crespo and Juan Sebastian Veron and was managed by icons such as former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti. The Golden Generation gave the club an excellent platform to build on, but financial mismanagement meant they were sold for a shocking $1 twice and went into bankruptcy before rising from the ashes again.

As they are back in the top flight, let us learn more about Parma sponsors, Parma fans, Parma History and Parma Net Worth.

Parma History & Key Facts

Parma were founded in July 1913 as Verdi FC in honour of the popular composer Giuseppe Verdi from Parma. The club became a founding member of Serie B and later on Serie C when they were relegated. They even went to the depths of Serie D before suffering losses and were liquidated.

They beat the odds and rose to the top flight for the first time in 1990 under Nevio Scala. The club signed superstars as Scala fired them to four major honours in the country and on the continent in quick succession. The best of them was the UEFA Cup triumph against Juventus.

Despite continued success, they were tangled in match fixing and financial scandals, forcing them into administration and liquidation. The pattern repeated multiple times before Scala returned as president in 2015, as the club took its current name and form. They were put in Serie D and won three straight promotions to reach the top flight again. The club yo-yoed between divisions since then. In the current season, they hope to find some stability and become a Serie A regular.

Parma Rivalries

Parma's success in the last decade of the 20th century saw them develop rivalries with several top North Western clubs. They enjoy a respectable on-field rivalry with Turin giants Juventus thanks to multiple finals played in the 1990s. They also have several local derbies that are well contested.

Parma Derbies

Derby dell'Enza - The game played with regional rivals Reggiana brings fireworks every time.

Derby dell'Emilia - Bologna and Parma are two of Emilia-Romagna's most successful sides and share immense hatred for each other.

Derby dei Ducati - Contested with neighbours Modena.

Derby del Ducato - Piacenza are the nearest rivals to Parma in this clash.

Parma fans and followers

Parma's fans are well known for loyalty and patience. They enjoy the spectacle of football and support their club passionately through thick and thin. In 2015, when the club was in Serie D, they sold more season tickets than when they were in the Serie A in the previous season. They have three main fan groups, and the ultra, Boys Parma, steal the spotlight. They sing the anthem Il grido di battaglia with utmost passion and choreograph excellent sequences before the games.

Parma also prioritises a global brand as their fans follow the “Different Cities, Same Passion” motto.

Future Goals

Parma have had enough divisional movements for a lifetime. The crusaders lived through financial struggles, bankruptcy and relegations to bounce back into the first division again. They hope to achieve a sense of financial security and stay in Serie A for a long time. The fight for silverware, however, is not at the top of things to do as the club aims for survival first.
