Baldur's Gate TV Show: HBO brings Larian Studio's Characters to Silver Screen

In a recent turn of events, HBO has announced a Baldur's Gate TV Show adaptation, planning to bring the Larian Studio's characters to the silver screen. The studio, however, is unfortunately not a part of this TV project and is being led by Craig Mazin. Yes, the same guy who made one of the critically acclaimed TV show adaptations of a video game series, The Last of Us.

Craig Mazin is on another venture to bring the BG3 characters to the silver screen, with the help of a few members of Hasbro Entertainment as consultants. On that note, let's take a look at everything we know so far about the Baldur's Gate TV Show and when it might arrive on your screens.

Baldur's Gate TV Show: HBO Rolls The Dice on The Forgotten Realms?

HBO, the reputed television network, has announced a Baldur's Gate TV Show set in the timeline after BG3. As a result, gamers can expect their favourite characters from the Game of the Year-winning title, along with some new ones, on the silver screen. As Deadline broke the news, every gamer has been buzzing with the upcoming series. While the project is yet to begin, Mazin is all set to dive in for this once he wraps up the ongoing The Last of Us 3 Project.

Even though there's no confirmation, the show is expected to keep the traditional Dungeons & Dragons format, where some are literally demons, a few are weak, and the rest are powerful. Personally, I would like to see how Mazin shapes everyone's backstory to keep their relevance over the whole storyline.

Talking about the storyline, if we remember correctly, BG3 features multiple endings, depending on your decisions and team members. Therefore, the show's creators could take any one of the endings as canon and start the story from there. It'll be interesting to see Craig's perspective depending on which ending he finalises in Baldur's Gate 3 Sequel.

Should You be Concerned About No Involvement from Larian Studios?

The Chernobyl creator's involvement surely brings hope, while no involvement of Larian Studios might be an area of concern, especially if you're a Baldur's Gate fan. The issue is so concerning that even Geoff Keighly posted, conveying his concerns about zero involvement of the original students. He posted:

Considering the mixed reactions over The Last of Us series, we can only hope it to be lore-accurate. On the bright side, Mazin is expected to involve the BG3 voice actors somehow in the upcoming TV series, to make the overall story more interesting.
