The game takes place in Japan in a post-apocalyptic time period, approximately 4026. Players fill in the shoes of Emma, who is a 'Sealer' and can absorb the Blight, as well as her canine companion, Koo. The Beast of Reincarnation gameplay reveal focused heavily on the bond between Emma and Koo.

In addition to controlling Koo's skills during battles, combat combines fast-paced katana action with tactical slow-motion moments known as Blooming Arts. Throughout the game, players will encounter a variety of enemies, such as enormous Nushi bosses and mutated Malefacts, who will change their surroundings while they battle.
