Krafton India will implement established transfer seasons for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) esports teams beginning this October, the company announced. The announcement was made in the third episode of TalkEsport's OnPoint with DPK, which featured Karan Pathak, the Associate Director of Esports of Krafton India. The goal of this initiative is to bring transparency and structure to a rapidly developing competitive gaming ecosystem in the country.

The new system will consist of two transfer windows per year, each lasting six months. The focus is to stabilise team rosters and create predictable timing for tournaments. The first window, from October to March to April, will be for significant tournaments like the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series and beyond, as well as multiple third-party tournaments.

The second window, from April to September, will cover major competitions, notably the Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series, BGMI Masters Series, Skyesports Championship, and the Upthrust tournament. Here's our BGMI Guide for the upcoming transfers in the game.

How the BGMI Transfer Season 2025 Will Work

Mr Pathak stated that strict enforcement of compliance will be implemented. Teams that do not comply with transfer rules will not be permitted to participate in third-party tournaments.

This rule intends to lower doubt in roster changes and sustain the integrity of competition at all levels. Per Pathak, all roster changes must occur during a cycle of six months to be allowed to compete in tournaments.

In order to ensure accountability, Krafton India will launch a live leaderboard that will track team performance and adherence to transfer regulations after the BGMI transfer season October launch. The ranking system has been built over the last few months with an effort to deliver accuracy and reliability in performance rankings. Mr Pathak stated that some preliminary tests have already verified the system, including rankings that demonstrate actual performance during the transfer windows.

The size of the Indian BGMI ecosystem increases complexity. Although highly competitive teams are familiar, the rules must cover hundreds of thousands of teams. Pathak explained: the system must accommodate about 300,000 to 400,000 teams. This requires careful implementation of processes that are fair and transparent at all levels.

Krafton intends to disseminate additional information through a dedicated PR article before the debut of the BGMI Transfer Season. The information will include eligibility, processes, and disciplinary procedures for teams and players.

Having transfer seasons is a major step toward fully professionalising the esports industry in India. Standardised roster requirements, live global rankings, and clear windows promote a more stable and transparent competitive season for teams, organisations, and sponsors.

For fans, this will mean more organised viewing and a more definitive understanding of the competitive environment. By creating transfer seasons, Krafton India is helping align BGMI with international esports practice and building the bedrock on which India's esports positioning on the world stage can be strengthened.
