The eighth match of the tournament between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, which was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, has come under scrutiny after serious allegations which were put by a senior official. It is being reported that there were various issues regarding security and ticketing at the venue.
Did IPL Ticket Fraud Happen at DC vs MI Clash?
According to reports, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) director Anand Verma has alleged major ticket fraud during the DC vs MI clash. Verma claimed that he and his guests were denied entry into the hospitality section despite holding valid passes, as per a formal complaint to the DCP (Central District). The complaint reads as per the Republic world:
When the Complainant and his guests arrived at the designated entry gate of the stadium, they were illegally stopped and denied entry by the security personnel manning the entry point. Upon enquiry, the Complainant was shocked to learn that the two complimentary physical tickets in his possession had already been scanned and used for entry by some unknown and unauthorised persons.
The Delhi Capitals ticket fraud becomes more concerning considering that physical tickets were used for entry instead of digital entry systems, despite being aware of the fact that it can increase the risk of duplication. The DDCA IPL fraud revelation shows that there are still potential loopholes in the system that allow unauthorized individuals to gain entry using duplicated passes, this raises concerns in the biggest cricket league in the world.
DDCA Secretary Responds to Anand Verma's Allegations
Amid the ongoing controversy, DDCA secretary Ashok Verma dismissed the allegations of ticket fraud and clarified that there was no such issue. According to him, the Delhi Capitals had already informed the association about a technical problem during entry. "Delhi Capitals have communicated to us that it was a technical issue. Sometimes the scanner fails to read the barcode," Ashok told PTI.
He explained that such issues can occasionally occur during high-volume entry situations, leading to confusion despite tickets being valid. Talking about the clash, DC defeated the five-time champions after a match-winning knock of 90 runs by Sameer Rizvi.
