Match Fixing in IPL? Phone Conversation From LSG Dugout Raises Questions

A massive moment erupted during the 53rd match of IPL 2026 between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk. During the game, a person from the LSG dugout was seen speaking on his phone while watching the match.

This incident during the CSK vs LSG IPL 2026 match has raised serious questions over the integrity and fairness of the league which has been in the headlines over the last few days. For the IPL, the biggest cricket league in the world, the LSG match fixing incident does not look good considering its massive reach.

Who is Talking On the Phone in LSG Dugout Controversy?

When LSG opener Josh Inglis was going all guns blazing early on during the innings, this incident took place. A person, who was present with a group of other Lucknow Super Giants supporters was seen talking on his phone while watching the match.

It was quickly recorded on camera with the social media claiming it to be a breach of rules and regulations put by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is not known who is that person but the use of mobile phone are strictly prohibited in this particular area. However, the LSG dugout controversy is not likely to end soon.

According to the IPL rules for PMOA (Players and Match Officials Area), only the team managers are allowed to use mobile phones inside the dressing room for exceptional cases. In the dugout area, meanwhile, use of mobile phone is not allowed.

The IPL has been accused of match fixing several times over the years. If we look at the history, some of the sides have been accused of being the No 1 fixing team in IPL, due to their involvement in such cases.

Earlier Incidents Of IPL Dugout Controversy

This is not the first time when someone from the dugout has been caught using the mobile phone in this season of Indian Premier League. Earlier, RR team manager Romi Bhinder was seen using the phone during a match against RCB from the dugout, which quickly got viral on social media.

Taking note of this incident, the BCCI slammed a fine of INR 1 lakh on Bhinder for violating the Article 4.1.1 IPL PMOA protocol. Bhinder offered an apology later, but the incident had already put question marks on the image of the league.

Recently, the richest cricket board in the world, BCCI, brought in several rules for IPL teams in order to stop any kind of match-fixing. However, the LSG phone call match fixing has affected the league's fairness once again.
