Nathan Ellis OUT of IPL, Know Who Will Replace Him in CSK Squad

Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings have suffered a huge blow before the start of their campaign. Nathan Ellis, one of the key bowlers in CSK team, has been ruled out of the entire IPL 2026 season due to an unfortunate injury.

Ellis, one of the best T20 bowlers, was expected to be in the starting XI of Chennai Super Kings and was their premier overseas player this season. His skills involve the ability to bowl at the death overs, which include deadly yorkers and effective slower balls.

Nathan Ellis Ruled Out of IPL 2026

Australia's star pacer Nathan Ellis was retained by CSK for INR 2 crores in the IPL 2026 auction. However, the pacer sustained a hamstring injury during training and is unlikely to regain fitness in time, as confirmed by the CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan himself. As Ellis is unlikely to take part in the upcoming season, the five-time champions are now left in the hunt for a replacement.

As Ellis is sidelined due to an injury, NZ star pacer Matt Henry is now likely to be included in the starting XI of the team as Nathan Ellis replacement in the upcoming matches. Notably, CSK released their star pacer Matheesha Pathirana ahead of the auction, and Ellis was seen as his potential replacement.

Ottneil Baartman and Gerald Coetzee could be considered by CSK as Nathan Ellis replacement for IPL 2026. These fast bowlers went unsold in the auction earlier but could join CSK squad now.

Nathan Ellis T20I Numbers

Nathan Ellis has a decent experience in the shortest format of the game. The right-arm pacer has featured in 36 T20I matches and taken 55 wickets at an average of 17.78, with a decent economy rate of 7.79. That's just his T20 International numbers; the pacer also has a lot of captaincy experience, as he has led Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL), one of the biggest cricket leagues in the world.

Nathan Ellis injury is indeed a huge blow for the five-time champions, and it would be interesting to see how they will cope with this loss in the upcoming tournament. It will be a big task for the CSK team management to cope up with Ellis' absence.
