Who is Romi Bhinder? Why Did BCCI Issue a Show-Cause Notice to Rajasthan Royals Manager?

Rajasthan Royals (RR) are having a great time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, however, they have come under massive scrutiny ahead of their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), to be played on Monday, April 13.

One of the major reasons behind the franchise being in trouble is its manager Romi Bhinder. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a show-cause notice to the team manager of the Rajasthan Royals, and this has made many wonder about him and his role for the franchise.

Who is Romi Bhinder?

Romi Bhinder has been the RR team manager for a long time. He has also been an integral part of the WCA team, particularly focused on the formation of franchises and new projects in India.

Romi Bhinder has been involved in cricket for a long time. He played club cricket in the UK and has also represented Vidarbha, Maharashtra, and Nagpur University at various district-level competitions. Him playing the game has strengthened his position within the cricketing ecosystem.

The Rajasthan Royals manager has also managed a lot of teams, and has been involved in promoting cricket and training aspiring players through the structured WCA learning approach. He has helped various young talents at the grassroots level who have gone to become one of the best players in IPL.

Apart from Rajasthan Royals, Bhinder is currently working on multiple early-stage initiatives under the Institute of Sport, focusing on long-term sports development. However, his health has also been in the news for a long time. He suffered a fatal lung ailment and recovered recently. He lost a few kgs as well due to his health condition before the Indian Premier League and also informed BCCI about the same after the Rajasthan Royals mobile controversy.

Why Did BCCI Issue Show Cause Notice to Rajasthan Royals Manager?

Romi Bhinder was recently issued a show-cause notice by the richest cricket board in the world, BCCI for using a mobile phone during their IPL match against RCB in Guwahati. The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) sent the notice to Bhinder and has asked him to respond within 48 hours.

As per the BCCI’s policy, the team managers are permitted to use phones only within the dressing room. But Bhinder was seen using it in the dugout. He was accompanied by the current IPL orange cap holder, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who could land up in trouble as well.

The reports in Cricbuzz state that it was well within the rules to use the phone. If there is a case to establish that the handset was being used for cricket operations, the purpose is to be seen. He couldn’t return to the dressing room for health reasons. The RR team is also aware of all the breaches. A few other teams are also believed to have received notices.
