IPL opening ceremony

We are just two days away from the start of the IPL 2026 as the league is all set to begin on March 28. However, in what will be a disappointment for the fans, there will be no opening ceremony for the 19th edition of the league.

The IPL 2026 will begin with the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Just like the last seasons, it was expected that there would be a grand opening ceremony.

But the BCCI has decided not to host the ceremony this time around. However, they have planned a grand closing ceremony before the start of the final, which will be played on May 31.

Why is IPL 2026 Opening Ceremony Cancelled? Full Details Here

As per the reports in Times of India, the BCCI has decided to skip the IPL 2026 opening ceremony in Bengaluru as a mark of remembrance and respect for the 11 victims of the stampede tragedy that took place in Bengaluru last year.

After RCB’s win last year, they conducted a victory celebration at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, but the happiness turned into tragedy soon. As many as 11 people lost their lives in a stampede, which even saw the stadium getting banned.

Ahead of the IPL 2026, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium got the green signal to host the matches this season. However, there will be specified guidelines for the fans if they have to attend the games at RCB’s home ground, which is one of the smallest cricket stadiums in India.

IPL 2026 Closing Ceremony Set to be Grand One

The final of IPL 2026 will be played at the same ground. However, there will be a treat for the fans just ahead of the final. The BCCI, the richest cricket board in the world, is planning to host a grand closing ceremony, which will compensate for the opening ceremony as well.

RCB would be keen to bring their best and reach yet another final so that they can play the final on their home ground. So far, only two teams, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have won back-to-back titles and RCB would want to join the elite list.

The defending champions will be captained by Rajat Patidar and they look like the favourites to win this time around as well. They have a well-balanced team capable of winning another title.
