One Spot Left for IPL Playoffs, MI and DC in a Tense Race Amid Rain Threat

Three teams have already made it to the IPL 2025 Playoffs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are through. Now, only one spot is left. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are fighting for that fourth place. The big clash between MI and DC is on Wednesday. Many people are calling it a virtual knockout. But the actual situation is more complicated.

A win for Mumbai will put them in the top four. Delhi will be knocked out if that happens. If Delhi Capitals win, the fourth spot will still be open. The result of the remaining matches will then decide who gets the final playoff place. Both MI and DC still have one more game left. They will face Punjab Kings in their last league match.

What Happens If It Rains?

A major twist in this story is the weather in Mumbai. The city has received a yellow alert for Wednesday evening. Heavy rain is expected. There is a strong chance that the MI vs DC match could be washed out. If the rain does not allow the game to happen, both teams will get one point each. That will take Mumbai to 15 and Delhi to 13 points. After that, their final league games against Punjab Kings will be crucial.
Now let’s look at the possible scenarios:
• If the MI vs DC match is washed out and MI lose to PBKS, they will stay at 15 points. If DC beats PBKS, they will reach 16 points.
• But if both MI and DC somehow reach 15 points, the Net Run Rate (NRR) will come into play.
• As of now, MI have a better NRR than DC. So, even 15 points may not be enough for Delhi.
This shows how tough the situation is for both teams. Every run and every ball can make a big difference now.

DC Owner Parth Jindal Appeals to BCCI

With the weather creating problems, DC owner Parth Jindal has stepped in. He has written to the BCCI. He has asked them to move the game to another city where rain is not expected. Jindal mentioned a recent example. The IPL had earlier moved a match between RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from Bengaluru to Lucknow. That decision was made because of bad weather in Bengaluru.
Jindal said, “The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains. There is a strong chance that the game will be washed out.” He added, “Just like RCB vs SRH was moved to Lucknow, tomorrow’s game should also be shifted.” He explained that the weather forecast had been the same for the past six days. He believes that shifting the game is the fair thing to do.
This is not the first time that rain has affected a big IPL game. KKR CEO Venky Mysore is also unhappy. He was upset with the BCCI’s decision to introduce a rule allowing 120 extra minutes for rain delays late in the season. KKR’s match against RCB on May 17 was washed out. If the new rule had been in place earlier, that match could have been completed. That could have helped KKR’s chances of reaching the Playoffs.
Mysore said the rule change came too late to save their campaign. Many fans agree with him. All eyes are now on the Mumbai weather and Today’s MI vs DC clash. The rain could spoil the party. But if the game happens, it will be one of the most important matches of the season. Will the BCCI move the match as requested? Or will the rain decide the fate of MI and DC? Fans of both teams are waiting nervously. One match, one city, one storm and two teams chasing one last dream.
