Indian Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer recently faced a life-threatening injury, but thankfully, he was treated in time and was saved. In the third ODI of the series against Australia in Sydney, the right-hander suffered a serious rib injury. As he put in a dive to remove Alex Carey, Shreyas Iyer fell badly on his rib, and then he ruptured his spleen, and there was internal bleeding. He was immediately shifted to the hospital and was there in the ICU for around a week in Sydney Hospital.

Following a mini procedure, Shreyas Iyer was then discharged, and he flew back to India. He recently underwent the UGC test and has been asked to repeat that after two months. If the reports show positive signs, only then will he be allowed to start his rehab. The reports in Dainik Jagran claimed that Shreyas Iyer will be missing the ODI series against South Africa and the January New Zealand ODI series. Also, he won’t be fit by the time the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 starts in India.

The reports claimed that he will be doubtful for the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as he won’t be able to recover in time. The IPL 2026 is expected to start in March, and Iyer will take some time to recover. Only if his second UCG reports come positive, he will be allowed to begin rehab and training at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

This will come as a massive blow for Punjab Kings (PBKS) as he was the key batter for his team with over 600 runs last season, showing why he is one of the best batsman in IPL. The PBKS management would be hoping that he gets fit in time by the time the IPL starts. Iyer has again and again mentioned that he will lift the trophy next year, having lost the final last year, and show his class being one of the best batsman in India.
