Jadon Sancho

Alessandro Del Piero believes that Jadon Sancho needs to go back to Old Trafford

Few talents were as highly lauded in world football as Jadon Sancho was when he first arrived at Manchester United as the Englishman was considered to be the start of something great. But things never went to plan for the now 24-year-old as he struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford. His first season ended with a dismal eight goal contributions and while things picked up, Sancho struggled to thrive.

So much so, that the forward made only three appearances this season before leaving on loan in January to Borussia Dortmund where things have changed for him. While he lacked match fitness and form in the first few months, Sancho has begun to show his skill over the last few weeks. That includes a sensational performance against PSG in the Champions League semi-final.

Del Piero asserts that Jadon Sancho needs to go back to Old Trafford

The Englishman may not have walked out with the Man of the Match award but he was certainly amongst the top reasons why Borussia Dortmund won the first leg. So much so, that it had many wondering why Sancho struggled that much at Manchester United. Yet despite that, Alessandro Del Piero believes that the forward needs to go back to Old Trafford to prove himself again.

The move to Dortmund is only a short loan spell and it offers everyone involved a chance to make a decision on their futures in the summer. The Italian legend admitted that Sancho is the kind of player that needs to play at the highest level, which is what the Red Devils can offer him. He also added that it does depend on how things change at United and that Sancho’s destiny is to achieve big things with a big side.

“If a player like him can play these kind of games, with this kind of quality, you need to go to Man United. Next year maybe, one more year, lets see how he feels, which coach, okay, everything, this kind of player needs to play every year at the top. And Dortmund don’t get me wrong, they deserve to be there, they may go to the final and win the Champions League, but [it would be] something extraordinary for that,” Del Piero told CBS Sports.

“With Man United they are supposed to go every year. I know they are struggling, but you have to, you want to achieve with the big clubs and this is the destiny of Man United and the destiny of him at some point. I hope for him that he can go there and perform in that way, with that personality, I really hope so. Tonight he was unbelievable, he was dribbling everybody.”
