Xavi will manage his last Barcelona game when the Blaugrana takes on Sevilla in their last La Liga match of the season.

The 44-year-old, whose contract was set to expire in 2025, met with sporting director Deco and club president Joan Laporta on Friday to hear the club’s decision.

Former Spain player Xavi declared in January that he was leaving Camp Nou; but, in April, Laporta convinced him to stay.

Xavi’s recent remarks in which he disclosed the club’s financial difficulties are purported to have infuriated Laporta.

Barcelona said they would like to “thank Xavi for his work as a coach” since taking charge in 2021. The Catalans added confirmation about a “new structure” will be confirmed in the coming days, with Flick set to take charge.

The 59-year-old Hansi Flick hasn’t had a job since Germany fired him in September 2023.

The German helped Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League in 2020, giving them the trifecta.

The 35-year-old forward Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona spent two seasons at the Allianz Arena playing under Flick’s management.

Xavi’s team failed to successfully defend their La Liga title this season, following their successful campaign to the top in 2022–2023.

With one game left in the season, the Catalans trail Real Madrid by 12 points.

Meanwhile, Paris St-Germain eliminated Barcelona from the Champions League in the quarterfinals.

Barcelona’s official statement thanked Xavi for his efforts and hinted at upcoming structural changes under Flick’s leadership.
