Brighton vs Chelsea Player Ratings as the Blues win four successive league games

Brighton vs. Chelsea: as it happened

Chelsea managed a 2-0 win at the Amex Stadium with Cole Palmer opening the scoring in the 34th minute with a stunning header from Marc Cucurella’s cross. Christopher Nkunku made it 2-0 in the 64th minute. He tapped in from a Malo Gusto cross to net his third goal for the Blues. Substitute Reece James, however, was sent off for violent conduct. Danny Welbeck pulled one back in the eighth minute of injury time but it was too late. Chelsea are now sixth in the Premier League table, courtesy of their win.

Bart Varbruggen– 6.5: Pulled off a few important saves, especially one from Gusto in the first half. However, made a few indecisive errors.

Tariq Lamptey– 7: Had a few good bursts down the right-hand side. Lamptey delivered a number of delicious crosses, one of which resulted in a header that hit the woodwork.

Adam Webster– 7: Had notable defensive contributions. Webster was also efficient with his passing with the ball.

Lewis Dunk– 6.5: Had to be replaced at the start of the second half. However, he did decent as long as he was on the pitch.

Igor Julio– 6.5: Julio did some neat work as a left-back. His passing range was good throughout the match.

Pascal Gross- 6.5: Gross was a bit wasteful in possession. It was not Gross’ best performance considering his quality.

Billy Gilmour– 7: Gilmour was very accurate with his passing range. He also produced a cross into the area.

Facundo Buonanotte– 6.5: While Buonanotte left the pitch with a perfect passing record, he didn’t have too much of an impact.

Julio Enciso– 7: Bright performance from the Brighton youngster. Enciso came close to scoring on one occasion as well.

Simon Adingra– 7: Lacked a bit with his passing range. Adingra, however, often put on the dirty work for his team.

Joao Pedro– 7: Had a good performance. Pedro was unlucky on one occasion as his header hit the woodwork.

Danny Welbeck– 7: Scored his first Premier League goal of the season.

Dorde Petrovic– 7: Was close to being challenged on a couple of occasions in the first half. Had a relatively quote second half.

Malo Gusto– 7.5: Took a nice dipping shot in the first half from long range, which was well-saved. Gusto did some brilliant work on the right-hand side to set up ChristopherNkunku’s goal.

Trevoh Chalobah– 7.5: A solid performance from Chalobah. Was accurate with his passing and also made a crucial last-man tackle to save his side.

Benoit Badiashile– 6.5: Didn’t have a very positive outing. Badiashile was a bit wasteful in possession at times.

Marc Cucurella– 7: A bright performance from the Spaniard. Cucurella had a penalty shout in the first half, which VAR check denied. He set up Palmer’s headed goal.

Moises Caicedo– 7: Passed the ball around pretty well during the game. Caicedo also made a couple of key passes.

Conor Gallagher– 7: Played a solid game. Gallagher had an important role during the build-up of Palmer’s opening goal.

Mykhaylo Mudryk– 6.5: Wasn’t very involved in the thick of things. Mudryk made only seven passes before being forced off.

Cole Palmer– 8: Chelsea’s man of the moment once again had an impressive performance. Palmer has now scored 22 league goals this season.

Noni Madueke– 7: Did well with his passing and also made a key pass. Madueke, however, was a bit ineffective when trying to dribble.

Nicolas Jackson– 7: Completed a few dribbles. Jackson, however, could have played a better pass in the second half that could have let Nkunku run on goal.


Christopher Nkunku– 8: Was a livewire after coming on and also managed to get on the scoresheet.
