Germany vs Greece

Germany vs Greece Preview, Prediction and Team News| Int’l Friendlies

Preview

Germany vs Greece will be played as an International Friendly at Borussia Park on June 7 as the host country for Euro 2024 amps up their preparations.

The hosts will enter this contest on the back of a decent run of form. They have lost just two of their last eight games across competitions, recording four wins and two draws in the remaining six fixtures. In that span, the Germany national football team has scored 13 goals and conceded 10 goals as they look to steady the ship before a major tournament. They played out a goalless draw against Ukraine in their last game and will look to perform better.

Greece, on the other hand, will enter this contest on the back of a slightly worse run of form than their next opponents. They have lost three of their last eight games across competitions, but have secured four wins and one draw in the remaining ones. This time, they scored an impressive 16 goals and conceded just six, keeping five clean sheets along the way. They lost their last game 4-2 on penalties against Georgia after it ended 0-0 after 90 minutes and will look to win.

That being said, let’s take a look at the team news coming out of both camps.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann named a very different-looking Germany side in their game against Ukraine, choosing to go with a blend of veterans and new players. Players in key positions such as goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, defender Joshua Kimmich, midfielders Florian Wirtz, and Jamal Musiala, with Kai Havertz up front, were all given starts.

Other veterans came off the bench in the second half as the manager rotated his team well. He will be expected to conduct a similar drill in the next game to ensure everybody gets minutes.

Manager Gus Poyet will look to field his strongest team against one of the toughest teams in the world and will hope his players play a positive game. Greece have not been in action since late March and could be slightly rusty in this one, but all the main players, such as Odysseas Vlachodimos, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Konstantinos Tsimikas and Giorgos Masouras will all be involved.

Greece National Football Team Predicted Lineup

Poyet will undoubtedly field a full-strength lineup for this game.

Odysseas Vlachodimos (GK); George Baldock, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Pantelis Hatzidiakos, Konstantinos Tsimikas; Dimitrios Kourbelis, Petros Mantalos; Giorgos Masouras, Anastasios Bakasetas (C), Dimitrios Pelkas; Fotis Ioannidis.

Head-to-Head Record

These two teams have faced-off just once in their history prior to the upcoming friendly. They played each other in Euro 2012, with Germany winning the game with a comfortable 4-2 margin over Greece.

Germany vs Greece Prediction

With little history of meetings between these two teams, this game could be another goal-fest like the previous encounter back in 2012. Both Germany and their last opponents, Ukraine, looked rusty when they played each other, but now Die Mannschaft can be expected to turn it up a notch with the clock ticking before Euro 2024 starts.

Prediction: Germany 3-1 Greece.

Betting Tips & Odds

This game could be very open and Greece are likely to get on the scoresheet. Germany have been poor at the back in recent times and have conceded at least one goal in six of their last eight games across competitions. This prompts towards both teams getting on the scoresheet once at least. However, the hosts should have more than enough of what it takes to win this game, and should do so in relatively straightforward fashion.
