Jose Mourinho emerges as a surprise front-runner for Chelsea manager job

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has emerged as a surprise favorite to take over at Stamford Bridge next season. Chelsea have parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino. Hence, the club are searching for a new manager.

Names like Kieran McKenna and Enzo Maresci have been linked with taking over at Stamford Bridge. However, some surprising betting activities have seen Mourinho now as a leading candidate. The Portuguese had two stints with Chelsea and has won three Premier League titles.

Mourinho left Chelsea for the second time in 2015. He has since managed other Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Mourinho is currently without a job, having left AS Roma in the middle of the 2023-24 season.

Betting expert addresses Jose Mourino’s links to Chelsea

The betting activity has surprisingly surged on Jose Mourinho. This contradicts reports that the Blues want to appoint a younger manager. Betting expert Steve Freeth has said (via GOAL):

“From 10.15 until 10.50 this morning, every single bet we took on the next Chelsea manager was on Jose Mourinho, which goes against the grain of the reports of Chelsea wanting a young and dynamic manager. In that time his odds plummeted from 40/1 into 2/1 favourite.”

Maresca and McKenna remain the favorites to take over at Chelsea next season. A sensational return for Mourinho, however, could be dramatic.
