Joshua Kimmich Provides Update on Bayern Munich Future Amid Manchester City Links

Joshua Kimmich, the influential midfielder for Bayern Munich, has addressed speculation surrounding his future at the club, asserting his calmness despite the lack of contract extension talks.

Joshua Kimmich Clears Bayern Munich Exit Rumours

The 29-year-old, pivotal to Bayern’s success since his arrival from RB Leipzig in 2015, has garnered attention for his exceptional performances, tallying 41 goals and 101 assists in 377 appearances across all competitions.

Despite being linked with a potential departure, Kimmich remains focused on his current contract situation, which sees him in the final 18 months of his deal at the Allianz Arena.

Amid rumoured interest from Premier League giants like Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Barcelona, Kimmich emphasized his tranquillity regarding the matter.

“In general, my situation is very clear. I still have over a year left on my contract. Nobody has spoken to me yet. That’s why I’m very relaxed,” Kimmich stated, addressing reporters following Bayern’s recent Bundesliga victory over Mainz 05.

Bayern’s recent managerial transition, with Thomas Tuchel set to depart at the end of the season, adds a layer of uncertainty to contract negotiations.

Max Eberl Comments on Joshua Kimmich Situation

Max Eberl, a newly appointed board member at Bayern, emphasized the importance of identifying their next manager before engaging in advanced talks with Kimmich.

“[Contract talks] will also depend on the new coach and how he sees Josh,” Eberl explained to Sky Sports. “At the moment, he is needed on the right of defence, where he is doing very well and is a great help to us. But Josh is also a player for midfield. He says he can play as a lone six. This a discussion that needs to be had.”

Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, echoed Eberl’s sentiments, expressing the club’s desire to retain Kimmich. “There will also be discussions with Jo, he played a really good game… Jo is a really good footballer, a very important factor for our team,” Freund affirmed.

While Kimmich’s current contract extends until June 2025, uncertainties loom over the futures of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr, whose deals with Bayern are set to expire at the end of the season.

As Joshua Kimmich navigates the speculation surrounding his future, Bayern’s hierarchy remains focused on securing their key assets amidst managerial changes and transfer rumours.
