The La Liga season is set for the business end as teams are starting to gather pace to reach respective goals whether it may be the title race, European football or race to avoid the drop. Eyes are firmly cast on the big boys scoring in front of the goals, but is their partner in crime who goes under the radar in setting the goals. With assist being an important factor in the 2023-24 La Liga season, here is a look at top servers in the Spanish top flight.

Toni Kroos, Real Madrid – 7 Assists

Aging like a fine wine, Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos continues to impress at 34 and has collected the joint-most assists in La Liga this campaign. With seven assists to his name, the German midfielder is proving his worth despite being in the twilight of his career. Kroos has come with routine crosses this campaign including one in the 3-0 win over Girona away from home in September.

Álex Baena, Villareal – 7 Assists

Touted as the next Isco by Spanish media, Álex Baena has hit the ground running in the La Liga and has seven assists and a goal. He has been at the heart of Villareal’s success in this campaign which has laid the foundation for their European quest. He delivered an assist and a goal in the side’s 4-3 defeat to Barcelona in August which earned him his maiden call-up to the Spanish national side where he scored on his debut.

Sávio, Girona – 7 Assists

Girona, who have been the story of the season so far, going toe-to-toe with Real Madrid for the La Liga title have Brazilian Sávio to thank. Savio along with Baena and Kroos is the joint-top assists provider for this campaign. Alongside his seven assists, he has scored five goals, taking his team contribution to 12 goals for the side. In December he provided an assist during Girona’s 4-2 win over Barcelona in the Catalonian derby.

Antoine Griezmann, Atletcio Madrid – 6 Assists

Antoine Griezmann’s contribution with Atletico Madrid has gone under the radar considering the capital side is not competing for the title. However, Griezmann’s tally of six assists sees him being one of the top players in the campaign alongside his 11 goals. Before the Real Madrid clash, he delivered four assists in as many matches to raise the bar. He also scored a hat-trick earlier in the campaign against Celta Vigo to underline his importance to the side.

İlkay Gündoğan, Barcelona – 6 Assists

With an assist each in his last two games, İlkay Gündoğan has been flying with Barcelona despite the team’s struggles on and off the field. Since his free transfer to Barcelona from Manchester City, the German has assisted five six goals and scored five, including a goal against Real Madrid in the 2-1 defeat in October. At 33, Gündoğan has adopted life to La Liga like fish to water and could end the season with the most assists in La Liga.
