Lionel Messi set to miss Inter Miami game against Vancouver on Saturday

Inter Miami are set to visit Vancouver for their 16th game of the MLS season on Saturday night. It is expected that Inter Miami players Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets won’t be partaking in their game with Whitecaps on Saturday.

Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster has revealed that Inter Miami has not issued any official statement about the availability of the former three Barcelona players, but they understand the trio won’t be able for the weekend tie.

Soccer fans in Vancouver have been eagerly waiting for Messi’s arrival at BC Place, with more than 50,000 people expected to be in attendance. The Whitecaps will reportedly offer a 50% discount on every in-stadium food and beverage to appease the disappointment of fans should the three Miami stars not make the trip for the game.

“While we haven’t received an official update on the availability of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets for this weekend, we understand they will not make this trip. Unfortunately, we have no control over who plays for our opponent, and it was important for us to communicate to our fans as soon as possible,” Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster said in a statement.

Since arriving in MLS, Lionel Messi has become the face of the league and has impressed once again this campaign, registering 10 goals in 10 league games and leading the MLS with 12 assists to his name.

The World Cup winner will lead his nation in the Copa America 2024 and showcase their dominance on the international stage. The Argentine superstar will be seeking a fairytale ending to his international career in what could be his last major tournament for his nation.

Due to his participation in Copa America, Lionel Messi is expected to miss a number of Inter Miami games throughout June and July.
