Trevoh Chalobah

Manchester United eye Trevoh Chaobah transfer from Chelsea

Manchester United have reportedly lined up a move for Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah. The Red Devils see the Englishman as the ideal replacement for Raphael Varane.

As per a report in The Independent, Chelsea are keen on selling Chalobah this summer and Manchester United are a possible destination. They are ready to launch after reports emerged that the Blues had slapped a £25 million price tag on their academy product.

Erik ten Hag is keen on signing a defender this summer as Raphael Varane has announced his exit. The Frenchman played his final match for the Red Devils in the FA Cup final, where they defeated Manchester City 2-1.

With Varane gone and the future of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans in the balance, Manchester United are looking to sign a defender. Chalobah will count as a homegrown player and fits into the new rules set by INEOS.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly decided that Manchester United will not sign any big names, and also steer clear of any player above the age of 25. Moreover, the management is assigned the duty of identifying targets and the Chelsea star is seen as one of the best available defenders.

Chalobah signed a new 6-year deal just months after the new owners took over at Chelsea. However, his place is not secured at the club following their massive spend in the last 18 months.

On signing a new deal, Chalobah said:

“I’m over the moon to sign this contract. It’s been an honour every time I put the shirt on. I want to give my all and do anything for this club. As everyone knows I’ve been here from a young age and to continue here is every kid’s dream. Whenever I get the chance, I’ll give my all for the club and look for the future ahead. I want to say thanks to God for this, without Him none of this would be possible. And just always believing. Thanks to my family as well and the club for trusting in me. I’ll now continue to give my all.”

The sale of Chalobah will count as a ‘pure profit’ on the books and thus help Chelsea with the FFP and PSR limits. The Blues had sold Mason Mount to Manchester United last summer for a £60 million fee but the midfielder had rejected the offers put on his table and was in the final 12 months of his contract.
