Man United star Harry Maguire

Man United star skeptical about his fitness ahead of FA Cup final against Man City

Man United centre-back Harry Maguire recently admitted that he isn’t sure if he will be fit in time to feature in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. The match is set to take place at Wembley on Saturday, May 25.

Maguire has been an important player for Man United this season amidst an otherwise poor campaign for the club. However, he has been out of action since April 27 due to an injury. He recently spoke about his fitness and told talkSPORT:

“Obviously, it’s disappointing and a frustrating time to get injured. I still don’t know if I’m going to be fit. It’s going to be a late one. I’m hoping to be fit for the squad for the cup final, but it will be touch and go.”

“It’s probably the first time in my career that I’ve had a few muscle injuries throughout the season. It is frustrating, and it feels different. You always want to play so maybe I need to look at how I’m managing myself and stuff like that.”

Maguire has 31 appearances across competitions this season and also contributed four goals and two assists.

Meanwhile, Man United have suffered from a host of injuries throughout this season. Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Willy Kambwala, Luke Shaw, and more have been out for extended periods. Martinez returned to action recently while Lindelof and Varane have returned to training, which will be a big boost for manager Erik ten Hag.

Luke Shaw is unlikely to play for Man United against Man City

Another major injury issue for Man United this season has been Luke Shaw. The left-back, who can also operate as a left centre-back, has been able to make just 15 appearances this campaign. He last played in February and has been out of action since.

There were hopes that he might return for the FA Cup final against Man City but he has faced a setback in his recovery process. Erik ten Hag recently told the press about Shaw’s situation:

“In this moment, I think it’s less of a chance that he will make it but there is still a chance. He had a setback, and now we have to find out how he is.”

Shaw and Maguire will be a miss for Man United against Man City but they will hope to have other players available for the clash. Skipper Bruno Fernandes and attacker Marcus Rashford have already returned to action from their injuries.
