Martin Boyle Injury: Hibernian star survives awkward fall against Rangers

Hibernian took on Rangers in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup last night and Hibernian star Martin Boyle had a worrying injury scare as the winger fell awkwardly after a challenge leading to him being stretchered off the pitch.

Martin Boyle Injury: As it happened

Martin Boyle has led Hibernian’s attack all season long and against Ranger he was deployed in a similar role. However, the night quickly took a turn for the worse as Boyle fell awkwardly as he challenged Ranger’s John Souttar in an aerial duel. The collision and eventual fall saw Martin Boyle fall on his back and hit his head as the medical team quickly made their way onto the pitch suspecting an injury.

After a thorough check of ten minutes, the Australian forward was finally stretchered off the pitch. In a statement released by the Hibernian club board, Hibernians assured the fans that Martin Boyle was safe. In the statement, Hibernian said, “Hibernian FC can confirm that Martin Boyle is now in a stable condition in hospital. The winger went straight to hospital after the first half collision against Rangers and is receiving the best possible care.”

The fall came in the 45th minute, as Hibernian were trailing 1-0 to the Scottish Rangers. Further inspection of the matter has revealed that Boyle felt the impact of the fall on his head. It was possible that Martin Boyle had sustained a concussion injury and taking him to the hospital was the most ideal decision. Boyle’s injury only further dampened the atmosphere at Easter Road Stadium as the Hibernians couldn’t come back from behind to beat Rangers. In fact, in the second half, they conceded yet again to lose the game 2-0. They were also reduced to nine men by the end of the game via two red cards.

Martin Boyle Injury: When will the Australian return for Hibernian?

Martin Boyle has been crucial to Hibernian’s campaign in the Scottish Premiership till now. Currently, the side sits in 6th place in a Championship play-off position with Dundee FC trailing only one point behind. If Hibernian are to retain their top-six position, the return of Martin Boyle from his injury is extremely important. For now, the Australian will remain under observation and the evolution of his recovery will decide his return. The winger is likely to be absent in the international break for Australia. He will also remain absent for Hibernian as they take on Ross County midweek.
