Mike Maignan Injury: Goalkeeper suffers dislocation in finger but fracture ruled out

Mike Maignan Injury: The Frenchman will be assessed for his availability for Euro 2024

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has reportedly suffered a dislocation in the fifth finger of his left hand, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. A fracture has been ruled out but further tests will be conducted to assess his availability for France at the UEFA Euro 2024 next month.

Having missed a large chunk of Milan’s 2023-24 campaign with injuries, Maignan’s misery continued with a fresh knock, and will now be sidelined from their final Serie A game of the season against Salernitana on Saturday.

Maignan’s latest injury news, however, is a concern for Les Blues, who are hoping to have him fit in time for the upcoming European showpiece in Germany. Head coach Didier Deschamps has included the goalkeeper in his final 25-man squad, having been his first choice between the sticks lately.

Romano has revealed that a fracture has been ruled out but Maignan will wear a brace for a week until further tests, which will also determine his availability for the Euros.

Maignan was France’s unsung hero of Euro qualifiers

Mike Maignan played in six of France’s 10 qualifying matches of Euro 2024, and kept a clean sheet in five, including one against Netherlands in their opening match. With Hugo Lloris retiring from national duty post their 2022 FIFA World Cup final loss, Maignan has emerged as his successor between the sticks. He will be vital to France’s fortunes at the upcoming championship, if passed fit.
