Netherlands Squad for Euro 2024: Ronald Koeman drops Atalanta’s midfielder due to injury

It has been 36 years since the last time the Netherlands won the Euro. This year, Ronald Koeman will lead another generation of De Oranje to bring the trophy home. The KNVB announced their final squad for the tournament with three players dropped from the provisional list.

Ian Maatsen, Nick Olij, and Quinten Timber were initially part of the list but Koeman changed his mind by dropping them out. Another name who will miss the summer tournament is Marten de Roon. The Atalanta midfielder suffered a muscle injury in the Coppa Italia final against Juventus and could not make it in time.

Huge blow as Marten de Roon is injured

De Roon’s absence was a huge blow for the Netherlands as he was an important part of Atalanta’ European glory this season, winning the Europa League. Maatsen’s dropped-out on the other hand was a bit surprising as the youngster is developing with Borussia Dortmund, bringing them to the UCL final.

The likes of Memphis Depay, Virgil van Dijk, and Matthijs De Ligt are also part of the team. All those players have been enjoying a post-season break lately before regrouping in the near future.

Netherlands are included in Group D alongside France, Czech, and Austria. The aforementioned have been a tough opponent for Koeman’s men, beating them four times in the last five encounters.
