Raphael Varane Set to Leave Manchester United as a Free Agent This Summer

Raphael Varane confirmed that he will leave the Premier League outfit, Manchester United as a free agent at the end of the current season. The 2018 FIFA World winner will depart Old Trafford after his current contract runs out in June. He announced his decision to leave Manchester United after his current contract expires this summer on his social media platforms.

The French center-back left Real Madrid in the month of August in 2021, and joined the Red Devils. He won four UEFA Champions League titles with the Los Blancos before deciding to ply trade with United. Since his arrival, the 2018 World Cup winner has featured in the 93 games for the Man United. He played a pivotal role in guiding Erik ten Hag’s team to win their first major trophy since 2017, when the Manchester-based outfit won the 2023 Carabao Cup at Wembley by humbling Newcastle United 2-0 in the final showdown.

Raphael Varane’s United Exit Confirmed

Varane has confirmed that he will not renew his contract with Manchester United and will leave the club as a free agent this summer, keeping his options open to join other Premier League teams. Erik ten Hag and his men will welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford for the last home game of the season. Raphael Varane has said that he will be there to bid adieu to all the club supporters. An emotional Varane stated: “I’ll see you (United fans) at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last home game this season. It will be be a very emotional day.”

Earlier, football news expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that both Manchester United and Raphael Varane had no interest in beginning contract renewal talks. Both parties agreed not to renew the contract as the club thinks Varane’s time at Old Trafford is over. The player has spent three long years at Manchester, delivering on big occasions alongside Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez at the back. He has been sidelined since the first week of April when the Red Devils fell to a 3-4 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

However, he might return to action before the end of the season. Manchester United are eyeing European football next season, with only two games remaining. Their last Premier League game this season will be against Brighton & Hove Albion, which will be followed by a much-awaited Manchester Derby in the final of the FA Cup on May 25. Varane might be seen leading the backline for ten Hag’s team in the big final.
