Under Xabi Alonso, the German team has already won a historic Bundesliga title and is hoping to carry on the celebration in Europe.

They have been undefeated in all 46 of their games so far this season, which has given them a great deal of confidence going into their trip to the Italian capital.

Last season, Andrich played for Bayer Leverkusen in their Europa League semi-final matchup against Roma. The first leg ended in a 1-0 loss for the home team in Italy. A metatarsal fracture forced him to miss the return leg, which finished 0-0.

Now, the 29-year-old has disclosed his wife’s apprehension about the forthcoming fixture.

In an interview with Kicker via Calciomercato.com, Andrich shared,

“On the pitch, there’ll be no thoughts of last year’s loss, not even during the match. My wife said: ‘I don’t want him to play in Rome, I have a bad omen’. This won’t be a problem.”

Recalling the painful defeat to Roma last year, where they suffered a 1-0 loss in Italy, Andrich emphasized the team’s determination to progress this season.

“That defeat against Roma was brutal, and tough, but we swore to ourselves that we would take the next step the following season. This was our motivation after that very painful elimination.”

With Roma then led by Jose Mourinho, Andrich expressed the team’s resolve to improve their performance this time around.

“According to the motto, this year we will do better to move forward. And now we have the chance, it’s a great motivation but it would be wrong to get excited. But it doesn’t worry me, we are ready.”

Bayer Leverkusen faces Roma in the Europa League semi-final, aiming to overturn their previous result and secure a spot in the final.

Bayer Leverkusen have already passed the first test by securing a 2-0 victory yesterday at Roma’s home ground. Robert Andrich did score the 2nd goal giving his side a 2-goal cushion in the 2nd leg.
