“I live a dream every day” – Rodrygo denies transfer rumours despite Kylian Mbappe’s impending arrival

Rodrygo has refuted suggestions he’s considering departing Real Madrid ahead of Kylian Mbappe’s highly-anticipated arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Brazilian superstar was forced to clarify a recent interview he gave where he touched on his future and the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old spoke to Brazilian outlet Placar TV weeks ago and he hinted that he could leave if he felt he wasn’t needed by Los Blancos:

“It also depends. Of course, I want to stay here for many years. I want to be here as long as I feel that I help and I’m important to the team. And from the moment when I see that I’m no longer important, maybe it’s time to look for another place.

Rodrygo also seemed to express an interest in one day playing in the English top flight:

“The Premier League is a league that everybody likes, I am not going to close doors to any other league. Everyone knows that my dream is always to play for Real Madrid — I want to be here, but everything can be discussed. But my objective is to continue here.

This led to widespread speculation over his future amid Mbappe’s arrival with many concluding that he’s prepared to make way for PSG’s all-time top scorer. He’s been at the Bernabeu since July 2019 and in that time bagged 54 goals and 41 assists in 215 games, winning 10 major trophies.

Rodrygo hit back at talk of a Real Madrid exit by explaining that the interview was taken out of contact. The 22-cap Brazil international posted on X/Twitter:

“A very annoying situation occurred today, where one of my interviews was completely taken out of context. To be very direct, I am VERY happy at Real Madrid, I live a dream every day and it does NOT cross my mind to leave the club of my life! Now we continue with history to make. By 15. HALA MADRID AND NOTHING MORE!”

Rodrygo gives his thoughts on potentially playing alongside Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid

Rodrygo has insisted that he’d relish the chance to play with Mbappe at Real Madrid if the 2022 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner arrives this summer. He said (via The Athletic):

“I always say the same thing, that I always want to play with the best. If Mbappe comes, I’d love to play with him. As I said: it’s not a problem for me, it’s a problem for the coach.”

Rodrygo has spent most of the season playing up top in Carlo Ancelotti’s frontline but has also played on both wings. He’s predominantly a right-winger and his manager will need to work out the best frontline to accommodate Mbappe.

Ancelotti also has Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham at his disposal so it’s a happy headache for the Italian who could guide Los Blancos to a 15th European title this weekend. His troops clash with Borussia Dortmund at Wembley and Rodrygo will expect to start that game.
