The Spaniard could possibly take up management…

Former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara has announced his retirement from professional football. Journalist Fabrizio Romano broke the news on X, while hinting that he could take up management.

Alcantara, 33, was last seen at Liverpool, where he spent four years until leaving this summer upon the expiration of his contract. The Spaniard had begun his career at Barcelona before moving on to Bayern Munich, where he realised his full potential.

Overall, he won 27 titles throughout his club career, while making 488 appearances.

On the international stage, Alcantara represented Spain 46 times, from 2011 to 2021, but wasn’t a part of the squad that romped to a second consecutive European championship title in 2012.
