Thomas Tuchel set to depart Bayern Munich this summer; in talks with Manchester United

Thomas Tuchel set to depart Bavaria following a disappointing season

Thomas Tuchel reportedly has no intentions of staying on at Bayern Munich beyond the current season. Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk has revealed that Tuchel has accepted club’s decision to end their collaboration and he’s being discussed at Manchester United.

The 50-year-old replaced Julian Naglesmann following his sacking in March 2023 and guided them to the Bundesliga title that year. He had originally signed a two-year contract with the Bavarians, but a poor campaign this time around means his time at the club is set to end prematurely.

Bayern’s 11-year-long dominance as the German champions was ended this season by Bayer Leverkusen, whereas the Munich outfit also lost the DFB Pokal as well as the DFL Supercup. The Champions League remains their last hope of a silverware this season.

However, even in the event of Bayern’s win at Wembley, Tuchel’s departure is confirmed, with the former Chelsea manager wanting a return to the Premier League. He is currently being discussed at Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag reportedly set to quit.

Champions League success with Chelsea pulling Tuchel back to Premier League

Thomas Tuchel had a 60% win rate with Chelsea, lower than his Borussia Dortmund (62.62%) and PSG (74.80%) records. But he achieved something that Tuchel couldn’t at those two clubs – the Champions League. The German guided them to their second European title in 2021, defeating Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the finals. It was also his first medal in the competition. This success could be a reason he wants to return to the Premier League, and perhaps replicate the feat with Manchester United.
