“He is a warrior”- Pape Matar Sarr comments on Ange Postecoglu’s raving comments about Cristian Romero

Ange Postecoglu recently showered praise on Tottenham defender Cristian Romero.

Pape Matar Sarr comments on Cristian Romero

Pape Matar Sarr has agreed with Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglu’s comments about Cristian Romero’s quality. Romero has been a key player for Spurs this season and netted in the recent north London derby defeat against Arsenal (2-3). Romero scored the opener for his side with the score at 3-0. The Argentine capitalized on a David Raya error to find the back of the net.

Romero, a 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, with La Albiceleste, often sets the standards for his side. Postecoglu was recently quick to point out the defender’s quality and mindset, telling the media (via One Football):

“He was outstanding (against Arsenal). He’s a World Cup winner and I’ve just got to get some of what’s in him into some of the others.”

Matar Sarr has now agreed with his coach’s comments. The Senegalese pointed out Romero’s work ethic and mindset, telling Sky Sports ahead of the Premier League away clash against Chelsea:

“The coach is absolutely right. Romero is a really hard worker. I often say he’s a warrior. He’s a winner and he absolutely hates to lose.”

Romero has made 29 appearances across competitions for Spurs this season, helping his side keep six clean sheets. The Argentine centre-back has also proved his worth on the other side of the pitch, scoring five times for Spurs this term.

Journalist claims Tottenham don’t need another player like Cristian Romero

While Cristian Romero is hands down a quality player with a winner’s mindset, he can be rash and aggressive in his style of play, NY Times journalist Rory Smith has brought that into perspective while assessing Ange Postecoglu’s comments that Spurs need more players like the Argentine.

While Smith acknowledged Romero’s abilities, he thinks Spurs are good with one player like him and don’t need others to have the same kind of approach to the game. He told BBC:

“Romero can be rash. He is very aggressive – which is a strength and a weakness at times – but you can see why Ange Postecoglou appreciates what he offers the team. I don’t necessarily know if you would want too much Cristian Romero in your team. I think one is probably enough. But that isn’t to diminish his ability – he is a World Cup winning central defender, so Cristian Romero is really good.”

Romero and Tottenham are set to take on Chelsea in a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge later tonight. Spurs are currently fifth with 50 points from 33 matches, seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with two games in hand. The London derby’s outcome could be crucial to Spurs’ top-four aspirations.
