Virgil van Dijk comments on why Arne Slot could be a success at Liverpool

Ever since Jurgen Klopp announced his shock decision to leave Liverpool, it has sent the fans into a flurry wondering who could potentially replace the German at Anfield. While several names have been thrown up, Xabi Alonso was considered to be the front-runner for the job. But the Spaniard dropped out of the race when he revealed his decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for another season.

That has caused further mayhem within the Liverpool ranks although reports have indicated that the club has a shortlist which includes Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Tuchel and a few others. However, a shock name on the list is Arne Slot despite his success at Feyenoord. The Dutchman has already lead the Eredivisie side to a league title over Ajax and reached the final of the Europa Conference League as well.

It has many believing that Slot could potentially replace Klopp at Anfield and Virgil van Dijk is amongst those as he wants the Dutch manager to succeed. The 32-year-old has thrived at Liverpool under Klopp’s tenure and is reportedly open to playing under Slot. Van Dijk went on to say that he believes Slot is one of the better Dutch coaches around and someone who could coach the Reds.

“I think Slot is one of the better Dutch coaches at the moment. With the way he plays and the philosophy he has, he can be a Liverpool coach. But I read and hear that it is far from complete. We shall see. We will focus on that next season, but that is still a long way off,” Van Dijk told ViaPlay.
