Zinédine Zidane targeted by Bayern Munich to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season

Bayern Munich are keeping all options option for their new incoming manager as they continue to scout options with the latest name linked with the Bavarian giants is Zinédine Zidane. The former France captain is one of the free agents on the market and could be tempted to move to Bayern considering he has good admirers at the club. Bayern will officially part ways with manager Thomas Tuchel at the end of the 2023-24 season after they have endured a below-par performance and are likely to surrender their 11-year reign as German champions.

Zinédine Zidane on Bayern Munich’s list

The Frenchman is a free agent after leaving Real Madrid in 2021 and has distanced himself from other jobs. However, the Bayern job could be one that suits him and the club well as both are serial winners and go deep in the Champions League. As things stand, Bayern don’t have too many options on the free market and will have to pay a hefty release clause if they are to attract someone like Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso or Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann.

Zidane comes with a proven pedigree of having won the Champions League three times while also winning the league title during his Real Madrid days. His win-at-all-cost approach is similar to Bayern’s philosophy and could help them tempt for a move.

On the manager side, an ambitious project where Bayern would be challenging on all fronts could suit Zidane. Bayern are one of the favourites every season to win the Champions League while they have single-handedly dominated the Bundesliga in the last decade.

Franck Ribery could join Zinedine Zidane

While language could be a big issue in Zidane’s understanding of the surroundings, that problem could be solved with another reported move. According to a few reports, Zidane could be joined by former France teammate Franck Ribery at Bayern Munich. The Frenchman speaks both French and German and could help Zidane assist and settle in the German club’s environment.

Ribery was part of the successful and dominant era of Bayern Munich where they won league titles on multiple occasions. He came third in the Ballon d’Or standings in 2013 when Ribery’s superb saw the German giants clinch a treble of the Champions League, Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal.

However, no decision has yet been made with Bayern also interested and keeping tabs on Jose Mourinho, Sebastian Hoeness and former boss Hansi Flick.
