After Blessing Muzarabani, Another IPL Player Gets Banned From PSL

Dasun Shanaka banned

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) vs Indian Premier League (IPL) tussle has become a hot topic in the cricket universe, and the PCB isn't holding back anymore. After Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani was handed a ban for ditching his PSL contract mid-way to join the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2026, another foreign star has now faced the consequences.

The multiple reports of players prioritising IPL over PSL, especially with both leagues clashing in the calendar, have frustrated PCB. Now that frustration has increased, Sri Lanka's T20I captain Dasun Shanaka has become the latest addition in that list. Some fans are even wondering why is Dasun Shanaka banned from PSL.

Dasun Shanaka Banned From PSL

All-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been banned for one year from the PSL after pulling out of his contract with Lahore Qalandars to join the Indian Premier League, according to Cricbuzz. The Sri Lankan all-rounder had signed a deal worth around PKR 75 lakh but opted out at the last moment to replace Sam Curran at the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

The PCB has treated the move as a clear contractual breach, similar to Blessing Muzarabani’s case, where players chose IPL opportunities despite prior commitments. With both leagues running simultaneously, such decisions where players prioritise IPL over PSL show the impact of the richest cricket league in the world.

Dasun Shanaka PSL ban has come at a time when both the leagues are going on simultaneously. The Sri Lanka all-rounder is yet to play a game in the IPL so far but can play a key role for his team, Rajasthan Royals, in the upcoming matches.

Dasun Shanaka Apologises to PSL Fans

The Sri Lankan captain didn’t take long to respond after the ban was officially confirmed, and his tone was clearly regretful. In a statement released via the PCB, Shanaka admitted that he had let people down and addressed fans directly.

Opening Quote

"The HBL PSL is a prestigious tournament, and I fully understand the disappointment caused by my actions. To the loyal fans of Lahore Qalandars, I am truly sorry for letting you down. I must clarify that at the time I withdrew from the HBL PSL I had no intention of joining any other tournament. I have the greatest respect for Pakistani Fans and have always enjoyed my time in Pakistan. I hope to return to the HBL PSL in the future with renewed dedication and the trust of the fans," Shanaka was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Closing Quote

Being one of the best all-rounders in the world, Shanaka has been in high demand for various T20 leagues across the world. In the IPL, he has previously represented Gujarat Titans but has modest stats in the league. Before playing the IPL, he led Sri Lanka in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, where they failed to make it to the semi-finals.
