Agni Chopra, the son of renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and famous film critic Anupama Chopra, is set to explore new opportunities on the franchise circuit. Agni Chopra PSL registration has made headlines, as he registered as a USA player and was born in the United States and holds American citizenship.

The left-handed batter had been an active figure in Indian domestic cricket until 2025, representing his side across major tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Chopra, who was one of the best batsmen in India at one point, made an immediate mark in Indian domestic cricket, creating history by scoring hundreds in each of his first four first-class appearances and scoring up to 1,804 runs for Mizoram during the 2024–25 season at an extraordinary average close to 95.

Will Agni Chopra Play PSL 2026?

Agni Chopra's U.S. passport has opened doors for him to take part in some of the biggest cricket leagues in the world. Using this eligibility, he has now registered for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as a USA cricketer. His registration as an American player allows him to bypass certain eligibility restrictions faced by Indian domestic cricketers.

Although apart from his registration, there is no other official update on this situation, and his participation in the PSL 2026 season can only be confirmed after a team signs him. Before his shift to the USA cricket, his consistency in red-ball cricket was rewarded in India during the 2023–24 season, when he received the Madhavrao Scindia Award from the Board of Control for Cricket in India for finishing as the highest run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group.

Agni Dev Chopra, who had represented Mizoram in Indian domestic cricket, featured under the earlier rules and continued to play until last season. In the past, overseas players were allowed to take part in India’s domestic cricket, but that policy was revised by the BCCI in 2024. Under the updated regulation, only players holding an Indian passport are eligible to compete in domestic tournaments.

What is Agni Chopra Base Price in PSL?

Agni Chopra has entered the Pakistan Super League player pool as an American national, with his registration details officially listed on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s website. In the registration, he has described himself as a left-handed batter who can also contribute with right-arm off-spin, and has set his base price at PKR 600,000.

This amount is approximately USD 2,100 and around ₹1.9 lakh, placing him in the lower base category for the upcoming PSL auction. Under current regulations, Indian cricketers are required to step away from domestic cricket in India before they can take part in overseas franchise leagues.

However, Agni’s status as a United States citizen allows him to bypass this restriction, making him eligible to compete in the Pakistan Super League as well as other T20 leagues across the globe.

A similar choice was earlier taken by Unmukt Chand, who led India to victory at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2012 and later represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. After formally retiring from Indian cricket, Unmukt gained clearance to pursue opportunities in international franchise competitions.
