Australia skipper Alyssa Healy has officially confirmed that she will step away from international cricket, with the upcoming multi-format home series against India set to be her final appearance for the national side.

The 35-year-old revealed her decision on Tuesday while speaking on the Willow Talk podcast, where she features regularly. Healy explained that the thought of retirement had been on her mind for some time, as she sensed a gradual decline in her competitive edge after spending more than a decade and a half competing at the top level.

“It’s with mixed emotions that the upcoming India series will be my last for Australia,” Healy said. “I’m still passionate about playing for Australia, but I’ve somewhat lost that competitive edge that’s kept me driven since the start, so the time feels right to call it a day.
It’s been a long time coming. The last few years have been more mentally draining than anything else. There have been injuries, and it’s getting harder to keep diving back into the well when it’s not as full as it used to be,” she said.

Speaking about the demands of the sport at the elite level, Healy shared that the constant physical strain and mental pressure of international cricket over the past few seasons had started to wear her down.

Alyssa Healy will step out of international cricket having featured in nearly 300 matches for Australia and scored more than 7,000 runs across all three formats. For a large part of her career, Healy was Meg Lanning’s deputy before being trusted with the captaincy in 2023.
